  • This morning loads and loads of police at the junction of essex road and upper street waiting to catch RLJers.

Been caught out there before so was wise to their ways and waited like a good boy for the glacially slow light-cycle that takes a good 90 seconds on "all red" while there's no traffic coming in any direction due to the timing of adjascent lights... during this interminable wait i asked one of the police officers there, "So are you lot all her because this is a particularly dangerous junction then?" she replied, "yeah it's not about tickets... there have been so many accidents here". I indidated disbelief (facially) and rode away form the deserted junction to nearly be squashed by a lorry changing lanes in the mess of lights, crossroads and heavy traffic of the Angel roadworks...

Now call me cynical but I'd have thought the junction of Liverpool Rd and Islington High St or Angel itself are much more dangerous juctions due to the speed, intensity and complex nature of the traffic. I suspect that they were only there because it is a quiet little bit where there's rarely much morning rush hour traffic, trying to catch cyclists skipping the very slow lights on a usually empty bit of road.

Anyone got any statistics on these junctions?
