The one way system is a labyrinth though. They should pedestrianise Oxford st as they were planning.

Tragic news

Police have also said a bus driver was taken to hospital and a pedestrian treated at the scene.
I've just seen some footage of the aftermath: the cops have cordoned off the area (it's on Oxford St just by the entrance to Tottenham Court Rd tube station) and police are measuring/investigating around 2 double decker buses that have stopped by the bus stop but there doesn't appear to be any other vehicle there.
Doesn't mean another vehicle wasn't involved though.:-(

R.I.P unknown female cyclist. Hope the Ped pulls through OK. Not turning out to be a great year for cycling in London.
This area is a slalom of road works in metal cages, obscured site-lines and totally useless 'cyclists dismount' signs at the moment, I cycled through recently and thought it was particularly shoddy and an accident waiting to happen.
Hope the driver who 'pulled out' is getting felt up by the law properly.

again, again and again this is truly awful news.
rip again. -
• #39
Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and best wishes to the injured pedestrian.
It's probably not the time or place to speculate about the cause of the collision. -

RIP to the cyclist, and get well soon to the injured.
Not good. Not good at all :-( -

Terrible news. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the poor woman.

Condolences to her family.... RIP

It matters little at this stage the cause, the thoughts go the the victims/ families today.
Hopefully a full police investigation will follow and the car driver identified if they are to blame

Guerrilla signs to recommend other routes? hmmmm

image looks quite scary, did it happen at this bus stop outside this ryman?
it appears the bus swerved into the bus stop to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. if the bus swerved left and hit the bus stop, the rider on the left must have been crushed between the bus & the bus stop. the accident took out an elderly man too, tragic... RIP.

That is an excellent idea. I cycled through the aftermath of this today, the whole area is chaos and it is set to go on for a long time, see link and pic below, the project is not due for completion until 2016 from what I can gather. Buses, taxi's, pedestrians (manic, shopping, visiting ones) and cyclists are being forced through a mismanaged, disorganised bottleneck from what I can see. Something had to go wrong at some point, it's just tragic.
