Like Clara I didn't see the crash but the policeman was saying the cabbie claimed to have lost control of the cab during the exchange and that's why he hit JD. I tried to suggest to him that losing control of a cab travelling in a straight line at sub 20 mph shouldn't result in a swerve large enough to run over the bike beside it, which it shouldn't unless there's something seriously wrong with the cab, but he was not being particularly receptive. In fact I got the impression that the police made up their minds the second they turned up.
