these bikes are all for other people. I posted on my Facebook that i'll build anyone a bike for the summer for the cost of parts only. Needless to say, i've always got projects going on. There's a junkyard bike shop with maybe 500 old bikes piled up in my part of the world. I take the people there and we pick out the shit. Then i take the bike home and make it run smoothly. I don't do gears just because i try to keep the cost near 100 USD, and old shitty gears aren't fun. there are some real gems in the shop. There's a woodrup sitting there wasting away, countless Miyatas, there's a Quinn, a gazelle 12 speed, tons of 3 speeds, and of course tons of junk.
this is in progress (click to enlarge). It's going to be very very pretty when built up. It's a peugeot, clearly. Paint is in excellent shapt. almost not rust anywhere. just a bit down by where a kickstand was placed. Pain in the fuck to find a seatpost that fit. 24.5mm? WTF? Was able to find some nice wheels with some kind of mavic double walled rims. Dished the wheel over. Single speed. two brakes. 3 speed bars. Going to be very pretty.
now the bike in back is actually the most interesting, and the first english lightweight 3 speed i've decided to pay attention to. I've always found these bikes to be more cumbersome than they are worth, but this one caught my eye and might be the first of many 3 speed that i work on. It's a Huffy Sportsman, which is actually a raleigh. The bike actualy weights only about 25 lbs! I haven't worked out the exact date yet, but the Sturmey in back is a 69 SW. All information on these hubs say the SW is a pain in the ass and was discontinued in 59 ater only a few years production. I'm damn sure this says 69 SW though, although i could be wrong. I'll look closer when home. Anyway the hub works when shifted on the stand. Haven't ridden the bike yet because it needs so much work. It's getting proper 3 speed bars and lots of love. If it works out well i'm gonna try to get together a better condition 3 speed in the near future with a better condition old Sturmey AW.
