There's currently 17 teams in the league. So 16 fixtures of 3 games per fixture.
Ok, so I should have said fixtures (as you play the 3 games at the same time, right?). So you want to have less fixtures, which clearly means you are going to have to divide it in some way. I wasn't sure if you play home and away, and could just cut that in half.
You could of course look going for an NFL-esque idea of dividing into regional divisons, where you play every team in your local division every year, and every team in one of the other divisions each year, with that division rotating on a yearly basis. Then the top 8 teams in the entire league go into a one day playoff tournament.
It would reduce the total number of fixtures (counting the playoffs as one fixture), yet over a few years you get to play every team.
I have no idea though if teams are roughly geographic, or roughly fairly divided, but it would also have an advantage that you play half your games in your local area.

Making a run for that least-amusing award?

I'm going after the least productive Friday at work award.

I think I'm doing the same. Trying to do some research, but being distracted super easily, and refusing to go to slackers 'cause I haven't done enough work. Fuck.

Pack up. Go to polo. Work is for Mondays through Thursdays.
-
• #159
Except for this week's Monday. Which was for polo. Three-day work week?
-
• #160
Isnt that why you're doing a PHD??
(the three day week i mean)

If they get an aggregate of 3 productive days out of me in one week they'll be doing well.

Ha, unfortunately, yes. In a very big way. The possibility of being able to slack off and do whatever I want at any given time (rather than having to be in a particular location with someone looking over my shoulder) is a huge factor. Even if I don't take advantage of it, knowing that I can is key.
I'm going to go play polo now.

As someone who wants to come back and play in next years league, i don't mind the splitting of the league at all.
I'm not really into the 4 man squad thing. Polo is a 3 man sport.
I'm into snoops idea of relegation/promotion, and i dont mind starting at the bottom, and as a few teams shuffle around it will be an interesting mix.
Saying that i also really like the idea of looking at the NHL and using the regional (easier set up games people who live nearer) and play off system

I think a split league is a very good idea. This year the league has gone on for too long and influenced the summer tourneys in a big way. Teams that have played in the league have stayed together for the tourneys as there is no time left to actually think about forming new teams for the summer as we all did last year.
A shorter league, split over 2 equal divisions, would mean that we are actually having a 'winter league' which was the original idea, and then a summer tourney season. My suggestion -
Split the league into 2 divisions on an odds/evens basis with new teams drafted in first come first served.
Allow 4 man teams for any that want to experiment or know they will have time constraints.
Introduce an entry fee (£30 per team ??) so only serious teams will register. All monies go towards the end of season playoff day bbq.

^ like it. Especially the entrance fee for piss up/something really awesome (polo butlins)

Aww I wish we could have a league in Paris. Not enough teams or good players sadly. And the French are vastly unorganised so would rather go drink red wine and eat saucisson beurre than think about setting up fixtures and updating xcel files...

i've just read this for the first tie and i was killing myself laughing. I've just spent all day with you all over again :)
Quick note though london is the only city in the world with a league isnt it? Then how can changing it or keeping it the same make any difference to international competition? Just play better. Seattle. New York, Geneva. Munich. I want to beat you. -

Just seen this thread to. Anything that improves London teams' chances on the International scene should be a priority. Not sure about skill based divisions though.

what would two randomly drawn leagues be like, rather than skill based divisions? then the winners of each could play off. just thinking out loud. on my keyboard. silently.
A game is announced every week from the beginning of the league (14th Sept last year) and there's meant to be a two week window for playing a game.
It should've taken 4 months or so for this league, so we've over shot a fair bit.
