  • A bit late in the day to get them to you in time, but depending on the sucess they may come in useful for the future.Picked up a 2 sets of golf clubs and about 5 of the shafts are really too short for us to use. If you need them then let us know. I'm more than happy to cover the postage costs if it means that we can spread the polo love.

  • Train strike is off.

  • I have at least 1 pole.

I cannae make it on the day, but i've got a spare mallet if you need it em/rik - just let me know and i'll drop it off somewhere.

    where are your poles/mallets???
can you bring it tomorrow to Downham? just a drop off

  • James and Wayne, are you still up for it?
I need your fuall names, could you PM them to me?

Any more spare mallets people, I promise bring them all back

  • Wayne is out, I'm still good. Just let me know where/when.

  • 10:00 am at Charing Cross station

  • Nice

  • Hope it goes well guys.

  • Yep good luck guys.

  • yesterday was a wicked day.
Prov and James are fun and good company, thanks guys for came down with me. Prov, you should work with kids, you are good with them.
The place was perfect for some introduction lesson, smooth tarmac, 3m fences. Maybe no ideal for one of our games but spot on for the day.
In the tennis next to it Steward was preparing the kids with the cycle proficiency, so when they were coming to us the were able to ride with a mallet in their hands
The ids were between 7 and 13, and mainly with BMX with very low saddles are with heavyyyyy cheap MTB.
Some of the parents have a go too, they all like it. One of the parents want to organize Tombridge hardcore polo, so go figure...
The Mayor lady came to have some pictures taken with us and the kids, she even said she will write about bike polo in her blog, brilliant!
And by 5 we were already in the train, so all in all brilliant day, amazing weather, good people, POLO!

  • nice one

  • Nice one, well done chaps for putting in the effort, going down there and spreading some polo love

  • Good shizzle!

  • Awesome work Rik. Thanks to James and Prav too.
Glad you guys were able to run with this.

  • Nice one Rik, James and Prav - training the future UK Bike Polo champs!

  • As one of the kids was leaving, he came back and asked if there was a bike polo club in Tonbridge he could play at. Obviously I had to tell him there wasn't but maybe there would be in the future. The reality is that he'll probably never be able to play again because even if they get polo going there, it will be for adults, by adults. You can't really tell a 7 year old kid to go set up a polo club and buy/build mallets from information he can find on the internet so what's he supposed to do? Sucks. This has been bugging me all day.

  • polo as part of PE lessons in the schools, easy.

  • one day.

Sweet. Then I could hate polo as much as I hate Rugby. Teachers polo would suck. Especially non-competitive hippy liberal teacher polo where we're all winners and nobody could get hurt.

Nice work making that happen though guys. Polo owes you some lovin'..

Did you never watch Blue Peter? Making stuff is an easy kidfriendly activity. Is there a way we can make some simplified mallet instructions that are suitable for kid+responsible adult and use easily available materials?

Maybe we can distribute it as a PDF from somewhere, or as a handout at things like this? We'd probably also need to make a basic rules one too, and thats all it takes to get polo started if they want to play..

  • Hey kids, get a hacksaw, power-drill, scalpel and off you trot!

  • Maybe one of the places that make mallets can start doing kid mallets...

It's a lot easier to get kids to pester their parents to buy what they want rather than making it!
