We've had a rennkompressor on shop floor duty for 9 months. The original tube and schraeder/presta adaptor lasted for about 6 or 7. That's a VERY long time when you factor in 3 or 4 customers using them every hour, and most of the time thoroughly abusing it and using it incorrectly.
The seal on the presta adaptor is adjustable and replacable. The beauty of that unit is that it is infinitely fixable with minimal effort. If the presta seal failed on our pump, it was normally resolved by disassembling it and re-adjusting the fit of the metal outer casing, or simply chucking in a new rubber seal which cost all of 3 pence.
We only had to swap out the end after some retard tore off the entire hose/nozzle and stood on it.
bought a rennkompressor in 1992, this came with a substantial push-pull Presta brass head. Apart from occasionally replacing the rubber seal in this and once replacing the rubber washer in the main barrel it worked faultlessly --- until six months ago when a heavy flying object gave the barrel a severe dent. So took out a mortgage to buy a new one.(best deal - BikeBitsuk , he's old school - drives to Belgium and gets the stuff himself). Maybe I'm a fool but good design should be foolproof and that Presta/Shraeder head was awkward from the start and then became troublesome. Solution -- replace with with original 1992 head which has a larger rubber seal and also inserts over the valve to a much greater depth.

I hate Joe Blow track pumps, they are shit... My Specialized is fantastic... i.e. I can actually get it to fill my tyres with air... What's the trick? I can't get them to work!?!

the thing about kit recommendation threads is people just recommend what they own, irrespective of how many alternatives they have or haven't tried...this thread is a good example as of the hundreds of track pumps I've tried Joe Blows are by far the worst of the generally available ones.
Babydinotrackboy has the best head ever on his track pump, I tried to remember the name, but forgot, maybe he'll spot this and let us all in on the secret..

This is the best track pump head

Y4599 comes to about £35, plus shipping, plus import duty, plus VAT, so if you buy just one you end up paying about £70. For my money, it's good enough to be worth £70, but I'm currently putting together a group buy on another forum so we can share the shipping cost, should bring it down to about £50. Also getting spare rubbers, adaptors etc., and if anybody wants any other little things from Alex's Cycles it would all help to spread the shipping cost as widely as possible. -

That's the Hirame, you should be able to get them from active life logistics here in the UK- it's what babydinotrackboy is running, no doubt. In the best tradition of engineering, made by a man in a small shed (I think.......)

Blackburn - end of story. Push on, twist chunky grip towards valve; done. As good as it gets.
Mine's on my old Silka - rang Blackburn when the original Silka one wore out, and they sent me one for free - result.
They also have a service kit for about £4 - full new inners, rubbers, seals etc. Not that I've needed one in about 5 years of 3+ times a week use.

Well at least we dont get so many 'justify my purchase' threads.
I have a Park tools PFP-4. The pump is well made and nicely designed. The pump head is weak and tricky to use though. Mine has now cracked where the hose attaches, and despite being careful I did bust a valve a while ago. So i obviously would'nt recommend picking up the head. Which is a shame, as Parks Tools usually produce simple quality tools, and the parts are readily available.

I have a Blackburn Air Tower 2 and while it is a good pump, the head gets jammed a lot, and needs taking to bits and cleaning out fairly often. At least it can be taken to bits.

It's a product of the mighty Kuwahara Corporation. I doubt that a small shed comes into it. If you know a UK source of these exact ones (not the cheaper one with the lever in the vertical orientation), we'd be pleased to hear of it.

For one Yoko pump head? Do want any spare rubbers while we're at it? I'm looking at ordering around Christmas, if that's OK with you I'll add your name to the list.

Take the bike to your local police station, they will help you to find the person who has the key.
