this is (yet) another cycling thing I just don't get. Why would you want to ride around a track on a road bike? Why? What pleasure can there be in it? Get a hamster ball, track/roadie toadie. That's very un-understanding, isn't it? Sorry...
I'd suspect it's mostly because a lot of people crave riding on closed circuits as opposed to on roads and streets with TWAFFIC owing to a combination of safety fears and not having a track bike (and being too lazy/unwilling to get one).
