  • i tried to be nice and give some advice re a better way to participate here

i love the way that these muptards make the assumption that all the answers to their questions ought to be in one thread so that they should not have to look for them

the problem is each one of these short sighted fuckwits dont realise that the next retard will come along and repeat the process, so we have a whole collection of these similar initial threads by people

the genius of this process is that none of these individuals can be fucking arsed to bother doing basic research, so each one starts a similar thread but sees that they are so special and important that all their questions deserve to be answered

there are millions of threads covering these matters, most of these questions dont need to be asked, or you could contribute or raise questions on relevant threads

You clearly have a different definition of nice to me!

You told me to spend some time reading up. I had! you asked me to not ask every question i have here. I hadnt been.

I initially asked some questions that I couldnt find clear answers for after looking around.

lets use chain tension as an example according to you I should have done a search first. thats fine it makes sense, unfortunately that search brought back multiple threads the majority all had a title of 'chain tension' and on reading them seemed to tell people to go and search(ironic that its exactly what I had done) the others involved either bikes that weren't SS or reffered to track bikes so i asked the question in here BECAUSE I couldnt find the info!

foot retention, the only thread I find on that when i search is one with lists of products no suggestions for a newcomer on what is best or what they should try first etc or advantages of one type over another!

people will ask questions when they are new and dont understand things this doesnt mean they haven't searched! thats what you seem to have assumed but your wrong in this case.

You may have seen a particular question asked hundreds of times so i get your frustration but I havent and couldnt find it so I asked it.

Maybe I should have posted on an existing topic but then which oif teh 20 chain tension topics should i have posted? and brought back from the dead, then i should of posted on the existing XYZ topics then they would all be on the front page, this way I posted just one topic, that was what i though was the best option.

Us muptards as you call us arent doing it on purpose to annoy you! well im not at least.

Look im sorry if i misread your nicereccomendations but I have to say if i cant find the answer by searching then yeh im going to ask the question.

PS maybe a sticky with lots of links to teh frequently asked questions by newbs would be a good idea?

  • I initially asked some questions that I couldnt find clear answers for after looking around.

    Stu, why take everyone on?

You didn't know who Sheldon Brown was. That's a bit of a fail. This is not about being elitist, it's about really basic research. DJ tried to help you out and as a little noob (like me) you have to take it on the chin if you get told to UTFS.

    Popcorn.

  • @stustaff - sent you a PM.

  • how fucking inept are you?

    eg

    foot rentention

that involves pedals, so look for pedals

lots of threads with pedals in the title

you might then see clips and straps come up - plenty of discussion on this

just a few threads with chain tension in the title

    http://www.lfgss.com/search.php?searchid=669039

oh fuck, do you have to read a few sources to find your answer? boo fucking hoo

its called research, not every link you open will hold the answer, but please exercise the shit between your ears a little bit

Take everyone on? it certainly wasnt my intention? not even sure i did 'take everyone on'?

Im happy to take it on the chin if he was right but i did UTFS and couldnt find anything so i asked, maybe people also need to generally be a bit more chilled.

but yeh I'll continue to read sheldon brown and thanks to asking the questions i learned to look on that site, not sure how or why i would have ever heard of it otherwise.

I would have spent much more time doing just that if i had known that asking a question that may have been asked before was akin to killing the easter bunny AND the cadbury bunny just because 'she was asking for it'.

boo fuckin hoo your the one crying because someone dared ask a question that may have the answer hidden somewhere in 20 identically titled topics.

  • I think it's all pretty fucken boring TBH.

  • I liked the popcorn picture.

but yeh your right I prolly over reacted.

    sorry all

I found Sheldon before I found this forum. If you search for something complex like, I dunno, 'Road Bikes' in Google, you'll come across Sheldon within an hour, and thus the answers to your questions.

    Ha!

  • I have enjoyed it, I am surprised it took as lng as it did to get feisty

  • Are they Smurfs?

    Ha!

I wish I had found it first! unfortunately i found this forum first when i searched for single speed bikes and was spending some time reading the info on here and then posting on here.

Maybe you could speak to google and get them to rank sheldonbrown higher than lfgss.com that should help in stopping new people coming here without having first done the required hours of research.

Alright butthorn, I'll call Bobby Google and personally get him to sort their analytics out to save you looking a right boob in future.

You see thats the kind of nice gesture that will make new members feel welcome here.

    Thanks ;)

  • i am new here, i cannot believe that all the answers to my questions dont just present themselves when i access lfgss.com

can someone please make me a mind reading search engine so i dont have to think at all?

or can someone help me with my lfgss/vulcan mind meld device?

i have heard rumours of yoggle and gell.com, is there a world outside lfgss.com or is it a case of "there be dragons"

this realm of fixie wixies is very perplexing, yet i had been told they were as simple as bikes came

just ignore the thread and have some ice-cream next time. It's almost the season!

  • So this thread went off topic.

    back to the subject!

    What handlebars are best?

  • Personal preference innit.

You've been riding MTB up until now, so you might get on better with a pair of risers.

  • tru dat, bruv.
if you're just commuting - risers are aaaaaaaaaaaaaight.

  • Thanks guys but before DJ explodes i wasnt being serious :D

  • Easily the best handlebars

  • Thanks guys but before DJ explodes i wasnt being serious :D

Good, because I was about to tell you there is no "best" that's for you to work out.

Personally my preference is bullhorns at the moment, but i'm thinking risers for my next bike.

  • i was just lusting over some velosolo risers - til i realised they were closed for easter.

    ...i cried a little
