  • Ironically, most hipsters would say the exact same thing!

yes, that post was completely serious.

  • if you really want to get a decent scan quality, those Nikon Coolscan V ED are the best to go for, it make RAW files appear very limited in comparison to the sheer range of the scanner, it can go up to 21 megapixels, depending on the films though, poorly shot negative will appear even more grainy for instance.

Ed- Nikon pulled the plug on the V Ed in 2008 along with the 5000 last year. They only have the 9000 now but for how long is anyone's guess. They want out of the scanner market.

But you can still pick them up second hand, does it matter than Nikon aren't making them anymore?

  • Not at the moment but it will when they pull the plug on servicing/repairing them as the spares stock dwindles!

  • Jessops in Brighton scans from the actual print, not the negative.
I asked: what resolution do the scans come out as?
she replied: that size, pointing at a print
me: erm right... I'd like to make sure the scan resolution is quite high.
She: well you can print them larger or pay more for hi-res.

    ARGGHHH!
It's still worth it, costs 2 pounds and saves the trouble of scanning them yourself (takes a long long time!)

  • From Post 269:

    Polaroid will be coming back.........

My twin sent me this link.

I can't think of anything better at the moment. I'm just grinning like a fool. ;)

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

When I moved recently I gave my old vintage Polaroid (complete with extra flash bulbs) to the local charity shop.

    Fucksticks.

photoben, not many places or people know about this, so car-boot sales or even some camera shops will be practically giving this stuff away.
Get what you like, cheap.....before too many people know.

    ;)

and From Post 831: (sorry dan, it had been raised before). ;)

These guys are manufacturing Polaroid film:

And now The Guardian discusses the Polaroid revival.

  • I'd forgotten how nice to use they are and how sharp that little lens is considering.

Mine is just a bog standard one, but it cost less than a tenner.

eBay, but you're not likely to get much more than a tenner, maybe stick it in the classifieds on here?

  • Can't believe i've just found this thread. I shoot mostly film, 35, 120 and recently started large format. I'm currently curating my first solo exhibition with all film prints which is good fun.

I know almost everyone has moved over to digital, but edscoble still uses film, and I have an RB67 that needs to get out a bit. Anyone else still like slides and prints from films?
