If we are going to look at it from another perspective, he had little time to react to a situation, he believed she posed a threat to him and she was dealt with.

Crowds dont spontaneously burst into violence. There is escalation based on increasing acts of aggression/violence etc which build up the anger of the crowd and bolster their courage. This will normally start with shouting abuse at a distance, spitting etc. They will then advance closer towards the object of their abuse and become more aggressive.

Normally someone who believes that they are particularly untouchable, will get closer to the police because they think "I wont get a smack because no one could react to a girl". They then provoke a reaction and hope secretly that they will get nicked so they can be the victim and sell their story to the Guardian. This woman played with fire and got burnt. This copper had to decide between keeping the perimeter or nicking her. Looking at the video you can tell that had she been arrested it would have taken several policemen to deal with her, so we then have a situation with several officers below waist level/vunerable to attack from the now enraged soap dodgers who are keen to "rescue" this moron. He chose not to arrest her and defuse the situation quickly, thus keeping the perimeter.

The stupid bint was out to provoke a response. Of course as soon as its over she sticks on her girly voice and calmly explains how she was perfectly innocently walking her little brother home from school with a carton of juice to feed the starving millions of Africa when this policeman descends out of nowhere and for no reason decides to smack her about.

Again we see another example of the media outrage bus influencing the IPCC and CPS. It should never have gone to trial.
