    7. mastershredder's + 1 (possibly)

fingers crossed for fine weather - i for one would really like it if birmingham polo can grow to support 2 games a week.

  • weather looks like it'll be satisfactory for sunday, (can't say the same for wednesday though).

can't wait to try out the highgate court - it even has covered little spectator areas!

  • quick question, will there be extra mallets for me and my +1? im guessing no as hypers not coming?...

  • don't worry, i'm going to pop round his place and borrow a couple on the way over. looks like a beautiful day for it - let's hope there are no urban cricketers...

  • sorry to be the dickhead who isnt there at the last minute
last night got a bit mad and i lost my keys and my phone in town
my bike is also locked up in town, so im a bit fucked really

goin round all the pubs today that i went to lastnight to try and find em
if i get there in time il be at highgate!!!

    sorry :(

  • ah forgot to check this thread again, assuming there'd be no mallets. sorry danwentskiing, i hope your trip to get extra mallets wasn't wasted. how was the court?

  • the court was excellent - only two small places for the ball to go out, and the surface was incredibly grippy. a little wider than the calthorpe court and it even has little spectator booths (occasionaly occupied by local drunks).

myself, andy and dan played little 2 on 1s for an hour and a half before an old lady came over and gave us hassle, mainly for a) being too old, b) playing a silly bike-snooker game and, c) preventing kids from playing there. after a little argument (she wasn't exactly warm to us and kept going on about it being a football court despite the lack of goals and 'cricket' being emblazoned everywhere), we obliged and let the 6 or so kids play, because fair enough it's a public court, we'd been there for over an hour and the majority of people there wanted to play football.

if/when there are 6 or more of us there playing polo, we'd better be prepared to argue our case and maybe even get the police involved because there's no way i'm accepting anyone has more of a right to be there than i do...

after we played, one of the afore-mentioned drunks came over and chatted with me for a bit - he mentioned that the woman involved is a busybody who wants to be on the residents committe and that i shouldn't have backed down and also that it kind of made him look bad (i didn't quite get his point but it was probably along the lines that he wasn't causing trouble and she's sticking her nose in to our business so he may be next...)

to summarise - great court, let's try again when 6 of us can make it!

(Sam - no worries for not making it, it would have been nice to play 2 on 2 but there'll be plenty more opportunities. good luck finding your phone and keys).

  • I enjoyed myself hugely... thanks for your patience Dan/Andy.
I'd hope that once i get rid of that stupid gear I'm on, I'd find it a little easier.....

  • tonight?

weather's looking patchy but nobody seems to be forecasting anything worse than drizzle, so i'm up for it.

if there's a decent enough turn out i'm going to force a vote to try and sort out the teams for manchester**before **we start playing, as once we're up and going it never seems appropriate, and it may be nice to play a few games with our teammates.

  • Easy there. I've never played polo before but it looks like good (dangerous) fun. I'm bored as I've just been made redundant. If there's somethign going on tonight I'd like to cycle up and see what happens. Never played before but would be interested to see if I could do it? Is there anything on?

  • so long as it's not raining i'm sure there'll be a game at calthorpe park. 7.30 is the stated start time, but it's usually not til 7.45-8pm til everyone arrives...

  • Ok, well I'm off to Moseley for a leisurely ride before the rain/sleet starts again. might see you there later if it doesn;t rain. is it that shady looking place up Highgate?

  • Ha, theres not many palces in Highgate which aren't shady! Its the flood light basket ball court on the corner of Edward Road and Cheddar Road (not the court next to the paragon hotel).

    I'll be there!

  • weather looks alright outside i'll be there unless its pouring down.

  • Sorry chaps, got to Selly Oak and almost got blown off my bike. felt a bit wobbly, bottled it and came home! pathetic, I know. hopefully next time.

  • any polo this sunday? met weather (right now) reckons the weather will be decent. afternoon session?

  • i'm up for it
