  • oliver in all his pedantry believes you have to be cycling if contributing to the forum, all his previous output here has been done whilst on the bike, hence his reference to speech recognition software earlier

he is still cycling but until he gets KITT for his bike working again he is struggling to type with one hand on the handlebars and one hand on the keyboard (not having the chernobyl 3rd arm)

his participation in various sex websites has been curtailed for ages as most of his partners find it very distracting when he is fucking and typing at the same time

is this pre caffeine? or post?
either way, that's not a bad little insight into your mind.

  • its rare for me not to be caffeinated

i think i was halfway through my morning flat white

  • Hi guys, healing seems to be going well--it's an uncomplicated minor injury, after all. It'll still be a while before I can do any heavy lifting with the left arm and I'm constantly doing some exercises to hopefully get the full range of movement back in the arm, which seems to be going well. Also taking some ibuprofen.

I'm afraid it's not nearly as exciting as the Clive saga, hence the lack of updates! Thanks for asking.

  • we don't want anybody thinking that just because you're vegan we don't care.

  • Can vegans have blood transfusions?

  • Oliver, sorry to hear (late as usual) about your injury. On the bike side of things, I once saw a guy with one arm doing a London to Brighton ride. He had both brake cables going into one lever and the front changer was mounted 'old stylee' on his down-tube. He was going up a steep hill at the time! Amazing!

  • Cheers, Ian. Yes, there are plenty of ways of adapting bikes for one-handed use, e.g. for hemiplegic people:

  • Oliver, how is it healing? When are you back on your bike?

I can't believe it's been a week and no-one's picked up on this.

  • I don't think that vegans are allowed to do things like that.

  • Sorry, I'm afraid I don't get the reference.

  • Oliver, how is it healing? When are you back on your bike?

Three weeks into a projected six weeks off the bike. So far, it's all going as they predicted. I might start doing short journeys locally a bit earlier. I don't know how long it'll be before I'll comfortably do longer rides, but hopefully it won't take that long. Can't wait. On the upside, I've got a lot more reading done while stuck on buses.

  • I've only just seen this thread. Bad luck Oliver, I hope you're well on the way to recovery now.

  • I'm surprised Pisti hasn't weighed in to call you "a complete pallet!"

Good to see you on Friday.

Cheers, Andy, I don't keep bumping the thread because, quite frankly, there's nothing exciting to report. I seem to be well on the way. It's just astonishing how long three weeks can feel if you can't ride a bike!

Didn't someone do a pallet pun upthread? too lazy to check Oh well, my performance there wasn't exactly palletic. More pathetic.

    Great to see you, too!

  • These puns must be starting to crate

Oh, not at all, I don't even like it when people stall at punning.

All these years of trying to keep my hands hair-free when I could have been entertaining myself.

  • I still can't see how anyone could come up with that link until they had a particularly bad case of schoolboy humour-induced arrested development. ;)

  • wankers.

  • I meant the link that BQ made. :)

  • I went out on the hack bike today for the first time since my fall. Only to go shopping, i.e. a three-minute ride each way, but it felt satisfying. I rode one-handed most of the way and only very occasionally put the left arm on the handlebars to stabilise a bit. I also avoided any difficult manoeuvres in close quarters that might have required sudden braking and walked those short distances instead. The arm is feeling quite sore at the moment, but I've learned how not to put weight on it, so it went OK. I also only took one pannier as I still can't lift much with my left. I'll see my GP again next week or go back to the fracture clinic to have it looked at again, as there doesn't seem to have been much progress in healing lately.

  • Yeah, do see your GP. It's so easy to injure yourself and have it turn into a lifelong problem. You think your body will heal properly but it doesn't always heal up back to the way it was :)

I came off a motorcycle last year and had some discomfort under the ball of my foot where the bike fell on me. It hasn't healed properly, after 15 months. I have about 95% functionality on that foot now. Means I can't run for very long without it being quite painful, or tiptoe properly. In retrospect, I should have gone to hospital, had an X-ray done, and got some proper medical advice.
