I don't hate Russell H or anything, my reaction was more along the the lines of "wow this is* really* bad" and specifically in relation to that promo.
"People say the news isn't funny... how about these *genuine *stories... 'man steals clock [big pause] faces time'..."
I just thought: that's not even observational comedy because it was obviously an intentional joke in the first place. I'm pretty sure whoever came up with that headline had a little self-satisfied titter to them selves even though as these things go it's barely above flat-line on the lol-o-meter in the first place. It sounds like something from 1001 jokes for kids.
So then to do a whole "Hey have you ever noticed" thing about it complete with heavy emphasis on the real-world nature of the source material is just piss weak I think. I'm not sure it even qualifies as comedy does it? Just pointing out other people's attempts at mildly amusing wordplay?
