• Sorry for thread hijack - I'm also wanting to get a new road bike through the cycle 2 work scheme in Evans, can anybody help me? I'm a student, mum doesn't work, dad's on the other side of the world.. =(

    students dont qualify. get a job if you want to get a scheme. other wise do what lots of other people do and sell drugs to make some extra cash.

    *i dont endorse drugs, drug dealing, fun or students

  • Cheers all, but sounds like it would be too much hassle (had plenty of PM info), so just the road bike for me. Bianchi Infinito with Veloce.

  • excellent choice, although athena would be better ;)

    wtf you want rod bike for? fixies rule dude.

    Don't need/want 11 speed as I am switching to FSA 165mm SL-K cranks (campag no do 165 :-( and don't want to have to fork out for fsa 11 speed chainrings.

  • the comment was made purely on the fact that athena is better than veloce. and i dont think any one needs 11 speed

  • this guy...

  • he definitely needs to lose those bib shorts and get something with less lycra

    Or what if I already have one? ohhhhhh!
    Don't do drugs either. I'm a good boy. Not cool..

  • If you came to BC (we do cycle to work) I would just tack them on as handlebars and not make a big deal out of it.

    If you'll take an Evans voucher?

    Our work scheme is Evans only. :-(

  • I was told in Spitalfields' Evans that they could do special orders for ride to work schemes, can't get wheels or mechanics stands though which is hilarious as they sold me the bike without brakes. I also put it to them that maybe I can't have a stand so it'd force me to pay them to service my bike?.. Not amused. I wanted a Nitto bar but it just seemed like too much hassle as there's no UK distributor (as I understand) so I bought a load of other stuff that I don't really want.

    My work does a scheme so that they lend you the difference after the tax breaks then charge you £50 at the end of it for the bike, no matter how much the voucher/ bike was for in the first place. This, apparently, is not a crime?

    Noticed this myself.

    would really like 165 on the roadie (maths says I need 162.5 FFS).
    would really like Chorus.
    Dont really fancy paying twice as much buying a groupset bit by bit :(

    SRAM seem to be brilliant in terms of crank length availability. Its almost tempting to defect.

  • I was pretty happy to find out yesterday that my company administers cycle to work themselves, so no final purchase fee, and I can buy any frame, fork or component I like, doesn't have to be otp, happy days.

    Nhatt do BC stock Kona?

  • No, Surly is too close to Kona to make it work with both brands.

    Decided to go for the CX?

    FWIW. If I was to only own one bike it would be a CX.

    Nice to ride on the road;
    Fun offroad (bit scary down hill TBH);
    Good for winter riding (room for larger tyres + full mudguards); and
    Decent load carriers because the longish chainstays.

  • Still in the researching phase SF (my favourite part!). The Kona would either be bike number 4 or 5 (depending on how many bikes I sell), but still feels a bit like a compromise (unless I could get it as frame and fork only, and get the wheelset I really want), I need to convince myself that I wouldn't need to keep my mtb 'just in case'.

  • Personal taste innit. I'm not a fan of using a MTN frame on the road, but lots of folk do.

    Could look into getting a crosscheck built up, to a light spec at BC. Personaly I'd rather have a steel frame CX bike if I was taking it onto light trails anyway. Again personal taste though. My alu CX frame is pretty uncomfortable on rough ground. But its not of the same quality as the Kona. Also armchair wisdom says that scandium enriched frames are more compliant than straight alu.

  • damn u guys with cycle to work with evans, all I get is halfords!

    I found out last week that Condor will take the halfrauds voucher with a 5% additional admin charge.

  • ^ really?

  • Fair enough. Maybe their profit margins are quite high on bikes so that 5% is all they need?

  • does anyone know if it's possible to get the fuji track comp on the evans cycle to work scheme?

  • do you not get a voucher for £1000 to spend as you please? including locks, helmet etc
