What's wrong with shimano alfine??

It'll do the job fine for a fraction of the price. You really don't need the 143,392,485,138,434 gears that you get with the rohloff. The range of the 8-speed alfine is more than good enough for touring.

nothing wrong with the alfine, that's a consideration (and the alfine are great), it will take me a long time to save up either way, so plenty of time to decided.

having ridden my father's road bicycle, and my old Globe bike that have 24 speeds, I find the huge range of gearing to be immensely useful.
