  • I've trained the bike to follow the car around, no rack required.

what kind of handlebars are required for said training?

  • how much is it?
and didn't you alread have a internal gear/ drum brake lace to a mavic tourer rim?

    About a grand.

Quite right as well. Ed, why don't you actually try riding with the nexus before you splash out on some rohloff nonsense? Are you planning to ride around the world including on the bottom of all of the oceans and possibly in volcanoes and in space? No? then you probably don't need a rohloff.

    Aero, natch!

  • because one - it doesn't have a disc mount which the bicycle will have (it's be singlespeed for now), two, I'm saving up for it which will take quite a while, which enable me to make a decision on it in the future, and three, the bike I'm getting is an all-rounder, from going off roading to touring.

  • New bicycle is coming, right now I've just started saving up for one of those;

I'll estimate it'll take approx 2 years to save up for it.

selling it, it doesn't have a disc mount, which the next bicycle will have.
and not the right size wheel, it's a 26".

please, you're giving me deja vu.

    With which saddle?... :D

  • yeah but you can get an centrelock attachment for the Nexus, or get a disc brake Sram i motion 9 ISO disc or a Sturmey Archer 8spd ISO disc compatible.
just saying- Rohloffs are for those with far more money than I could spend on a wheelset.
or even, nearly, a whole bike.

  • my new bike:

    handbuilt by me!

  • Hope it's better quality than my last Flite..

I send it back to CRC, got a refund, bought another model (the one just a bit earlier than this one) and it did the same within a week...

Shitty crap saddles.. I have several black ones that never did this, and I have one of the older yellow real leather Flites never did this..

I hope your SLR holds out better.. It looks to be used so I guess it will :)

    old flite FTW

  • There's an 11 speed Alfine coming up this year. It will probably be a 1/3 of the price of a Rohloff.

  • ha 50p says ed will be riding a recumbant in 2 years time

  • sick sick, fixed or geared?
Good use of the wall as well, projector FTW

i think a trike is a safer bet, more utilitarian.

Those omniums were a bit pricey then? :P

  • Ed, We've got Rohloff number 003 as a doorstop! Never got round to building it into a bike.

    Freewheel w/ rear brake

i put forward facing for the option of the derailleur hanger, but mostly because they're the longest dropouts you can get, switching between 18t and 22t on flip flop. #trackendsareforhipsters

  • New project, truativ omniums on their way and it will be track ready, apart from a chain, then want some proper track bars and a stem and the possibly a mike burrows/use aero post, and then some ultegra pedals.

  • oh and maybe a photography course.

  • I aksed a mavic rep about these today, he said they're only available for pros. fuckers

    What's wrong with shimano alfine??

It'll do the job fine for a fraction of the price. You really don't need the 143,392,485,138,434 gears that you get with the rohloff. The range of the 8-speed alfine is more than good enough for touring.

  • Sounds live.
final build should be good then.
bit of a run-around bike then?

    fairdos...
I suppose that makes me a hipster... except for the fact that I don't wear a cycling cap, have a messenger bag, or super skin tight jeans with vans classics..

tell you what, Im running an Alfine on one bike, but theres still that yawning chasm of a gap between 5/6 gears,
I ll buy you a gold plated door stop and you can give me the Rohloff, deal?

  • MAX, did you really braze the entire thing yourself?

Im impressed!! (looks like an awesome polo steed dude!)

    :)

Annoying for poseurs, but they would probably fall apart pretty quickly if you wore them for more than the 20 yard trip from the team bus to the podium - the uppers are designed to be fitted to a super stiff carbon sole, not a flexy strip of rubber, so they would probably crack from the flexing in the region level with the front strap.

  • you in london?
    I can drop one off.
    without lacquer though.

I'll be down for the Tweed Run on April 10 - could I pick one up then? It would be much appreciated!
