Be carefull not to focus on the wrong issue as that could waste time!
This is a small matter of displacement. the air inside your tube wanted to leave, it felt being inside that tube was exposing itself to a pressure higher than its fellow air element friends on the outside.
Don't fight it, don't go to such lengths trying to force the air into that tiny tube, instead remove all the surrounding air elements and allow the air to realise in its own time, the inside of that tube is a good place to be.
