Brakeless riders are evil for hurting the feelings of the people who make brakes. If that isn't illegal yet, it should be. There, I've said it.

I've done richmond park brakeless (as well as other), it wasn't a problem at all.
This is a good place to start if you like to have some cycle training;
'peace bro'.
A much better place to start with cycle training is actually http://www.cycletraining.org.uk/. Or your local authority, which may offer free or subsidised courses for adults. The LCC site covers far more than just cycle training.

No brakes,
chain snaps,
shove foot in rear wheel.
I stopped much faster than i thought it would've taken, and the only sacrifice made was the shoe. -

My brake pads are cheaper than shoes and last a hell of a lot longer.

my skateboard has no brakes does that count?

You are a nuisance bumping into all those old ladies.

Did you think you were going to be massively hurt?

Foot was fine, but could feel the friction burn steadily increasing the temperature of my foot.
And no, i didn't think i was going to be massively hurt. Jamming my foot there was always a plan of mine, if things went shady, and if one foot wasn't enough, i could always jam the other in there, which IMO would be more than enough to slow you down.

never hit an old lady thankfully, but plenty of business men, and the occasional jogger

The only chain I have ever snapped was on a bike someone else built.
Properly put together bicycle chains don't snap unless they are ridden beyond their service life(easily checked with wear indicator), fitted incorrectly(pins/masterlink not connected right) subject to forces they aren't designed for(grinding or very bad chainline).

I don't understand all the critics of brakeless riders, you talk about your chain snapping. when a brake cable snaps on a Front brake only singlespeeders bike, you stay upright and take some sort ofavasive action. (the main reason i don't like ss front brakers is most of the people i see riding them are shit at cycling)
If your correctly maintained chain snaps, you fall off, fact. In fact, you eat the road before you even know its happened. If your putting enough force in to snap a correctly maintained chain, your body cannot react quickly enough to the sudden jump/loss of tension and you hit the deck.
I've had this happen twice on a mountain bike. I've also had it happen from a standing start at traffic lights, when a dodgy lockring slipped, i.e. loss of tension, feet whip round, head hits the road.
I ride 64" brakeless with a helmet on, i trust my own skill not others. -

what, you don't understand that it is inherently more dangerous?
-
• #195
how on earth have you all been dragged into a brakeless debate in the mechanics and fixing section?

no brakes is in the title

Rosmal would suggest otherwise.
And what about snapping while resisting the pedals? You'd just fall back into the saddle.

I know its more dangerous that front brake + fixed, but still think ss front brakers are the most dangerous.
I don't really see it as being that dangerous, I don't get any kind of adrenaline rush like you would when riding an actual dangerous bike i.e. mtbing in the alps etc
I think most people that think it as being really dangerous have only really ridden road bikes, nothing demanding technical handling skills and want to ride a big gear ratio. I don't ride as fast on brakeless as when i'm on my road bike, but i think its more fun when riding in the city. -

fair point. Not sure about resisting, i think you'd be surprsied at what happens, have you ever snapped a chain under load?
Ed, please do cycle training. It does sound as if you might learn a thing or two that would then improve the advice you can give to people. Some things about cycle training are very far from obvious, and Will clearly had the right hunch when he asked the question.
