  • I hasn't had cycle training, but I do feel that I am a safe cyclist, and are able to ride sensibly and follow the highway code (i.e. no RLJing), I feel I can read the road reasonable well to able to ride sensibly, in the last year I never had any collison, just close call that I've successfully avoided every now and then.

As for the brakes, the main reason I recommend people to ride with front and rear brakes is the amount of control of riding the bike, rather than the possibility of the brake cable snapping, and of course it's a hypocrite of me to warn people not to ride without brakes when I ride without them, I'm quite aware of that, but frankly I'm not going to tell them that it's fine to ride brakeless, that'd be the last thing I want to said.

As for the chain, it would be quite hard to try and snap a chain if you check it regularly and making sure there's no possible deformation/wear, frankly, a brake cable failure is more likely to occur than a chain snappage.

I'm not going to jusified myself of riding brakeless, because there's nothing to jusified, I just like to ride brakeless, but it doesn't mean it's the 'right' way to go.
