My apologies then.

I build snowflaked wheels for a shitty LoPro build.
I did it:
a) To try it
b) I didn't want to spend any money, so reused the spokes from the wheels I dumpstered the rims off. They hold out fine.. Even did a ""L'Enfer du Nord"-allycat on it with no problems..
I would never ever pay for spokes for a twisted build though, since is is pointless..

Snowflake front: No thanks.
Radial Front: No thanksSnowflake Rear: I'd rather walk.
what's wrong with radial front? - it would break easier in a collision maybe but who gives a toss? i'm more worried about my face in a collision than my front wheel which will be written off either way - my radial fronts have always been just as stiff and light as my 1/2/3 cross wheels but look pretty
:)
snowflake makes me want to puke for aesthetics but takes me back to the 90's in a rather nice reminiscing kind of way. i miss my polished zaskar LE - snow flakes on red hope ti wheels and 'butterscotch' magic tyres. sweet. -

Can't believe I use to think they're 'interesting'.

+1
In theory they go out of tru quicker though, because the tension/de-tension cycle is more extreme when the spokes are perpendicular to the rim.
They may even be stiffer as you can lace the entire wheel heads-in for improved bracing angle [/nerd] -

Remind me, what is the benefit? To be wacky?
I thought the "point" or something like that was to be able to lace a wheel if you had bought spokes that were too long? Not sure why you would purposefully buy them too long in order to do this.

i could be mistaken but back in the day soldered/tied spokes were to create a stiff wheel that stays true. whacky mountainbikers wanted the same thing so somebody somewhere tried this for a very stiff wheel that doesn't go out of true as often- easy to make but hard to get nice and straight and a fucker if you get a bad buckle.
but that's what i remember from years ago before i built wheels but it makes sense i guess?

i had one on my old Saracen built by merlin cycles and was just to look 'cool'. No other reason and was dead stiff well until it was robbed from my Mk3 escort

I've been working on this for about 5 months... I actually think the snowflake looks good. But its new to me, I guess I needed to get it out of my system, perhaps everyone rides a snowflake for novelty. I'll be slagging people off with em , when I replace it :)
I think I get it back to 3x when I need to build the wheel again..
They do however seem really strong - this wheel was built by Condor and does look different to the other posts on this page.
I'd love a critique of my new bike... comments please, harsh as you like.

which one show the snowflake wheels?
if you like to have some very strong critique, best to post them in current project.

Snowflake wheel = no
Fork = no
bars = no
white tyres = noOther than that, it's nice!
-
• #66
Thanks Jammy, I'm feeling the white tyres are the biggest mistake - way too bling and 'white'.
I think I'm gonna be embarrassed riding them for sure. The Snowflake wheel I just liked, I didn't realise that it was such a "90's" thing to do... Oh well at least I'm getting it out of my system :)What forks would you recommend then? I was unsure from the start about the forks.
the Bars feel great, I know short little stubby things are better looking, but Ive gone for comfort over aesthetic.
Thanks for the feedback.

what the hell are those bars about? Yuk

Nice bike eject. I used to have white tyres WHEN THEY WERE COOL so don't feel too bad, if it's something I've done you can't be doing too badly.

Like I say - I'm going for comfort: read this Midge Bar are lovely. Quote: "Midge bars look really old fashioned. They would have been retro when your grandparents were kids. I’ve only ever seen anything like them in old photos taken at a French velodrome in about 1908."
iro_dan get yourself some :) http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/bike-reviews/on-one-midge-handlebars/1788.html
However I think I'm gonna switch them for : Deda velocita drops.

Thanks Crispin - Yep the tyres have to go - Bad consideration there!

Nice bike.
I love Midge bars so, although they may not fit asthetically, so cannot critisize them.
I hates the tyres though.

I've just called Condor and as I haven't riden on the tyres yet - They will exchange the tyres.
Any recommendations on tyres would be gratefully received :)
Thanks Smallfurry.

going by what you've got on there now I'd say some 28mm Vittoria randonneur's.

Something all black. There's a tyres thread somewhere around here IIRC.

hey thanks - that was a close to wasting £60 on tyres that I'll never use...
Can't believe I use to think they're 'interesting'.
