  • campagnolo bb's have iso taper, so the chainline will be 4mm further out, than with the specified 107mm bb.

shimano bb's have jis taper, so installing the iso miche cranks on 110mm jis taper is the same as using a a 114.5mm iso bb, as iso cranks on jis spindle sit 4.5mm further out than they would on an iso spindle of the same length.

  • Same here. My miche one died two years ago and I've been using the shimano ever since but am fed up with having the wrong iso.

So does the 111mm campy bb actually give an acceptable chainline because a 110mm shimano was miles off.

  • So how does the chainline look with the campag bb?

  • campagnolo bb's have iso taper, so the chainline will be 4mm further out, than with the specified 107mm bb.

Can we see how you worked this out please?

  • So how does the chainline look with the campag bb?

  • Thanks andyp, looks close enough for my liking.

    Nice alan, BTW

  • can we have a pic of the whole bike? conversion right? why the flat pedals though?

  • tell us how you installed it then ed

I didn't, I let a shop that I trust to do it for me, it's fine.

  • Can we see how you worked this out please?

If you install an ISO crank on a J.I.S. spindle, it will sit about 4.5 mm farther out than it would on an ISO spindle of the same length.

  • I suggest you re-read it. Miche cranks and BBs are ISO taper too.

  • campagnolo bb's have iso taper, so the chainline will be 4mm further out, than with the specified 107mm bb.

As far as I know the Campag Centaur bb has an overall spindle length of 111mm, which is symmetrical. So despite being 4mm longer than the recommended 107mm Miche, it only moves the chainline 2mm out

  • Exactly.

  • 111mm it is then.

  • Never had issues on these BB's and I run two bikes with them.

ah yeah, maths fail on my part.

this part also contains maths fail. using a 110 mm jis taper bb with iso cranks would be the same as using 119mm iso bb.

  • Just thought I'd better update this...

Thanks Andyp, I bought a campag bb at the car-boot sale this morning and fitted it this afternoon.

The ride home was beautifully silent.

    Perfect fit.

  • Never had issues on these BB's and I run two bikes with them.

    +1

I also run these BB's on two bikes and both have always been fine, faultless.

  • I ended up getting a cheapo (12 quid) campag mirage avanti bb. Not exactly super record but it seems fine and looks rather nice too.

  • so that's a 111mm bb giving an alright chainline? i've been thinking about getting rid of the miche one for a while.

  • so that's a 111mm bb giving an alright chainline? i've been thinking about getting rid of the miche one for a while.

yes, the 111mm gives a very good chainline, check the transmission database and you will see quite a few are riding campag bb with miche cranks.

  • got a 111mm bb today and fitted it, chainline looks grand. i'll pop up a picture when i get flickr working

    EDIT: here's the picture

  • non-bb anti Miche related moan: miche primato hub, miche track sprocket and miche lockring all combine to make... nothing remotely rideable. there's too much thread for the sprocket and not enough for the lockring so it's impossible to get the whole thing anywhere near touching, let along tight. Not a big deal as i'll just get a spacer tomorrow but it just annoys me that three components with the same name on apparently designed to work together... don't. And that means yet another day on foot.

  • Campag should just kill Miche and release a Centaur or Veloce Pista groupset.

    Man this would be awesome.

  • You obviously don't understand how Italian companies work. Co-operation is the norm, not cut throat competition.
