Too small? you must have very poor pedalling technique then.
He's right, in a roundabout way, 70 is plenty for a road fixed. 30mph is only 150 RPM.
I don't have very poor pedalling technique, it probably ain't brilliant but ain't poor ... I just think that if you are resonably fit you should be able to accelerate on the flat at 70GI to the point where it is too spinny (120rpm +) to keep it up for a long time comfortably. However it is only a little bit too low and I feel that 72-75 is just right.
I don't like riding @70 on my commute I prefer much lower since I have better acceleration and I get the jump on cars.
