Bern helmets are a cool shape. I painted my girlfriend's cream with red stripes, like an old moped helmet. Mine is currently black but will be dark silver with twin matt black stripes with metallic purple metallic lace over the stripes, and lime green pinstripe around the stripes (yeah, I like to paint stuff).
You've gotta be careful what kind of paint you use on what material though. Water based will be fine on anything, but you need to shoot it with a compressor/gun or an electric gun system (£££) and the paint is about £30 a litre. Rattlecans and other solvent-based paints are alright on hard shells such as BMX/skate helmets (so long as you mask off the polystyrene, because it will melt this) but not on microshell helmets like on racing bikes as the microshell is lexan and will dissolve.
