  • Thanks, Andy. You would probably have been right at home in the Middle Ages, with a very mature response to 'witchcraft'. :)

Actually, it was a plastic thing, like those that are used for bread. I don't even know if 'pallet' is the right word, come to think of it, but it's flat and stackable (© Superprecise), so it might do.

  • we cant lose a veteran critical masser on the 26th...................
Oliver, surely you can ride a pallet truck one handed, just scooting along pushing with the feet and balancing?
    (bummer about that btw :-(

  • Ooof. Sorry Oliver :(

  • That's such a middle class injury ;)

Seriously sorry to hear that, how annoying. I admire your honesty in admitting it was totally your fault, people seem to hurt themselves these days then straight away look for someone else to blame.

after I'd locked my bike up at the Stoke Newington Farmer's Market to get some bread

  • olli, c'mon maaan! heal up auf die schnelle.

think, good shoes for walking next time ;)

    best wishes!

  • pictures or it didnt happen

Heal-tfu my friend, bad news and bad timing

  • Heal up quickly Oliver.

  • nooooooo! i feel like i jinxed you with my message about our epic loop around oxford.

    get well soon :( x

  • Bad luck, Oliver. That's what comes of having big plates o' meat.

    stay clear of here

  • unlucky Oliver.. I know that having forced time of the bike will hit you harder than many others of us so will ride a couple of extra miles in your honour.

  • Sorry to hear this Oliver. Heal up soon dude. I'm certain you'll enjoy cycling all the more for a few days when you do get back on two wheels.

  • Heal up soon Oliver.

  • Cheers, guys. Yesterday wasn't too bad and I'm feeling much more chipper this morning. It's already much less painful, but I'll continue to be careful. I have a routine appointment at the fracture clinic tomorrow, but it seemed like an easy diagnosis in A&E, so I'm not expecting much news.

I'm not sure I'll miss the bike more than other people, but perhaps it is a case of knowing slightly better than some what I'm missing.

Next I'll reactivate the old voice recognition software, as one-handed typing is simply way too slow for what I need to be cracking on with.

  • nooooooo! i feel like i jinxed you with my message about our epic loop around oxford.

Go on, send me another! That ride is first on the list when recovery is in sight.

I wouldn't describe 200k as 'epic', he, he, but I'll need to take medical advice about gripping the handlebars for the best part of a day over rattly roads. I've had problems with that even when uninjured, and it is currently my main worry for how long I'll need to give it a rest before I resume the long distances. That said, it is a very minor injury, so I don't want to make too much of it.

  • Hey Oliver, can you get a power trainer and just do free handed cycle-training for a while?
At least then your leg strength won't deteriorate as much and you arse won't get as soft.
    Just an idea ...

  • I have a routine appointment at the fracture clinic tomorrow, but it seemed like an easy diagnosis in A&E, so I'm not expecting much news.

Bad luck, Oliver. Fracture clinics are a terrible place to have to go. Take a good book - you may be some time!

  • Two weeks on the tube is an excessive punishment for a moment of inattention. As VeeVee mentions they are bastards on there in the rush hour, after a few weeks of that you'll be nostalgic for the genteel civility of minicab drivers and scooter boys. Even wearing a sling doesn't gain you any sympathy, it just marks you for easy pickings, like a 3 legged wildebeest roaming the savanna.

  • That's such a middle class injury ;)

    .

its fantastic isn't it, tripped over a pallet in a farmers market on the way to buy organic bread

    were you in cycle shoes??

glad its not too bad Olly, hope it heals quick. these sunny days are great to walk about it, just think it could be worse

  • How ironic that Oliver will start having to take public transport as soon as the weather picks up. At least the fair-weather cyclists won't be taking up precious seating space on the buses and trains.

  • Oh, Oliver, get well soon

    • heads off to find some good jokes to make Oliver laugh *
  • Bad luck Oliver. Hope you heap up soon.

  • Bad luck Oliver. Hope you heap up soon.

Cheers! Quoted quickly to win the uncontestable award for best typo in this thread. :)

Haha! Eeeexcellent. Heap the FRICK up young man.

  • Just realised that there hasn't been any proper multi-quoting yet.

He, he, there's no way I'd even contemplate taking the Tube. If it's public transport it's buses or overground rail for me.

    were you in cycle shoes?

No, I was on my hack bike--no foot retention.

glad its not too bad Olly, hope it heals quick. these sunny days are great to walk about it, just think it could be worse

Thanks. Like I'm going to actively seek out walking. :)

At least I had a few glorious days of it. But it's a good idea; I could always claim that I'm a foulweather cyclist.

    Thanks, Ru, good tip.
