Just been using a Canon 28-135mm (f3.5-5.6) for these, that my Da uses with his 40d.
From almost the word go I've been disappointed with my 400d + kit lense... it rarely ever gives a sharp image no matter how much twiddling I do. I suspected it might be because something somewhere was misaligned perhaps. The above photos are a lot sharper. Maybe it's time to invest in some new 'glass' (just to wind Mr. Smyth up).
I'm a total novice and my technique is complete trial and error, so maybe I should work on that too.
