**---- RULES UPDATE ----
**For Saturday we'll be using standard Euro / League rules with a couple of additions -
No overhead height - Balls played overhead height by either dangerous shots or lobbed passes will result in a tap out.
Goal return rule - Scoring teams must all return and tap their goal before scored on team can attack.
Back of goal - Rebounds or passes through the back of the goal can only be shot by a player after it has touched one other player’s mallet.
Penalties - Usual tap out rules apply. Double tap-outs and ejections will be called for intentional or repetitive foul play or worse (mallet abuse, t-boning etc).
There will be a quick rules reminder before the group stages, but I'm hoping they're straightforward and easy to understand.
We do need some goals refs on the day so get a list started below if you are happy to help out -

Nice work yalls. I like the ball height rule. Nice.
Must all three players tap before the other team can attackackack?

Yep. We'll not have D's, goal area marking or halfway lines so the easiest marker is a tap from all 3 players.
-
• #169
No halfway line? How do you know what an attack is?
-
• #170
The ref will be positioned on half way, as will a tapout point each side.
-
• #171
just a thought, but wouldn't coloured duct tape do the trick for a halfway line with no permament marking?
you could even do a D
-
• #172
Not sure about the surface at the moment. Lebowski should know what's allowed and what's not. For the time being we're working with no line marking, may change before Saturday but the rules are based on no lines.

Nice, like the rules.
As far as mallet abuse: hacking = no; hooking = yes?

Out of interest who instigated the no over head height passes rule?
What constitutes a dangerous shot? Is a hard slapshot where the ball hits a bit of grit and sails high a dangerous shot? Is a shot from a ball which is bouncing and therefore chips upwards a dangerous shot?
What if a team lobs the ball (Perfectly safe skill by the way) to a team mate who scores from it whilst the other guy is tapping out?
No offence but it sounds like a poorly thought out rule and is certainly not something which has ever been debated either on the forum or at any LHBPA meetings.

I think I remember it being brought up after Zurich! That was ages ago. And of no relevance to this discussion.
However, seems like a good idea to ban lobs in this circumstance (exhibition on a court we're not used to with spectators watching without any idea of the pace or game play, positioned, probably, right on the side of the court paying the littlest of attention at times). Sure, lobs can be done well and quite softly. I've also seen them done at speed and quiet a distance from their target.
Whether they should be allowed in polo in general is another discussion.
