  • WARNING: THREAD DREDGING

I was about to post something with an almost identical title, but then up popped this thread.

I woke up today to find the sun was shining. Glorious. I'm starting work as a bike tour guide today with my mate's business, and I'm going to be paid to cycle round all day.

So, there I am, feeling all smug, cup of tea in hand, when I notice one of my SPD cleat things is missing a bolt. It was tough to release last night, so it must have just been twisting about. Anyhow, I figure I'll tighten the other bolt up like a bastard and it won't move, at least until I can get to a bike shop that sells bolts (I live next door to a bike shop, but it's dutch bikes and shoppers only).

I get the multi tool out and start tightening. Bit of creaking, from the tool as I'm tightening... and then SNAP! The bloody allen key broke. The extremely pointy sharp bit that stayed wedged in the cleat made a nice big hole in my hand between my finger and thumb. I'm going to be leaning on that bit of hand rather a lot today.

Moral: Don't buy cheap tools, and don't gloat. The universe doesn't like either.
