Is anyone here familiar with what they have done in Bogota?
There was a documentary on the communtiy channel about it. They had an elightned mayor with all these great transport ideas. One of the the major issues was creating infrastructure for the poor towns and villages on the outskirts of the city. Where people had NO roads or transport at all. Instead of giving them motor roads and encouraging vehicle usage. He built them big cycle lanes which went all the way into the city. Now everyone has got themselves a bike and rides into the city for school or work.
The same place has a "bike day" every sunday where they close the major highways in the city and turn them into bike only roads.
I think it would be so incredibly awesome if for only ONE day per year, they closed a few major motorways and pretty A roads and left them for bikes only.
The whole nation would get into cycling and ride all over the place on "bike day".
I would totally do that if I was the PM.
