2010-04-10 Sat - The London Tweed Run 2

With all this ranting and raving it's a dissapointment that no one has shown any support for Teddy who has organised this event in his own time & effort, and probably his own expense.

It has been made clear from the start that there were only 400 places & after all the press from the previous event there was bound to be a lot of interest.

At the end of the day it is not just for fun but for a good cause so if you did'nt get in then make a donation to the charity to show your invlovement and support.

I think flak comes with organising any event, but in my opinion no organiser deserves it. Teddy has created a fun and highly desirable event, and those who didn't manage to register are always going to be gutted. On the Saturday, I missed watching my kids swimming lessons because I hovvered over the computer waiting to register. The kids swimming is very high on the Family Lucifer priority list - I missed it because I would have puked a kidney if I'd missed out on the Tweed Run. The people who registered made registering a priority - there's no point buying an outfit, a bike, a plane ticket, then somehow fuck up when it comes down to registering. Teddy did a sterling job of advertising the event on Twitter and the forum, he couldn't have possibly done any more. Those who got places did so through a bit of forward planning, although I am gutted for those who missed out.
My advice: save the tweed, don't screw up the event this year for those registered by gatecrashing the event, and be ready next year for the 1000 strong 2011 Tweed Run.

If you wanted to be on the ride that much you'd have made sure to be in front of your computer and registered as if it was Glastonbury.
Last year there was what 150?200? with little to no press or hype, or attention seeking apart from this here forum, and a couple of well placed enquiries and emails. Did you think it would be smaller than that number with both Teddy and Jacqui on the case trying to make it bigger and better?
The numbers capped for reasons that have been discussed upthread. Hopefully those that missed out this year will be able to do the 2011 run when the numbers allowed (fingers crossed) will be higher, or if not and numbers stay limited then people will make sure to be in front of computer when registration time rolls round.

Sorry I can't be there Teddy to enjoy the ride, or to help out however I could. It'll be marvelous I can tell already. Be Dapper big man (I don't know why I'm saying this, you always are) and both you and Jacqui, don't let the stress of organising and running this, stand in the way of you having a magnificient time on this most exciting of Tweed Rides.

Thanks Teddy and Jacqui, it's become apparent over the last couple of days that the effort that went into this was immense - I literally wouldn't have known where to begin if I had to do the same. Intentional or not (I'm sure not), a couple of the posts on the last few pages read like people were hassling you, which is a real shame.

I'm not usually one for organised rides but I've been looking forward to this for months; it promises to be a splendid day out.

couldn't be further from the truth, it's just people mouthing off with the initial disappointment..

So many people are so very excited about this which says how much the work you've done has been appreciated, even if the platitudes haven't flown in yet.

Just would like to say that I don't feel people are upset at Teddy at all, so I don't understand why some feel the need to have a go at the people who are sad because they missed the registration.
Teddy does a great job and I'm sure everyone thinks so. If he didn't, then people wouldn't be sad for not being able to go!

I don't think anyone, including me, meant any ill-feelings towards Teddy during the rant period. Of course I appreciate that it is a lot of effort, and Teddy deserves all the praise he has got/ will get during and after the ride. Thanks Teddy. But it doesn't make it any less disappointing to be excluded from this on the basis of numbers, that's all.

Teddy and Jaqui have done an excellent job getting stuff sorted this year. The H&S mongers make it exceptionally hard for any organised events to take place without loads of hoop jumping. (good jumping guys)

For those who have the period bike, tweed attire and interest why not get on a veteran bike ride with your local vetertan cycle club group. Not quite the same but you'll get to meet some really interesting characters, see some really old fixies (safety bikes are great), and give those bikes and tweeds a practice ride ready for next years run.

Don't you wish the police would actually facilitating the ride's departure out of Hackney rather than hinder it. If we were on a religious demo they'd bend over backwards.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced place to stay nearby? I'm worried about being arseholed on gin and dressed all tweedy, wobbling ten miles through London on my bike to a distant Linton Travel Tavern...
Another mild worry is where are we going to leave our bikes at The City of London club? I can't imagine four hundred bikes stacked up around a single lamp post.

hello all. as has been said in the other thread, if you are registered, you should have received a confirmation email by now. to confirm that you are registered, go to this link and log in, using your name and password, you can also ask for your registration email to be resent.

I took part in the last year's Tweed run - and alas was unable to register in time for this year. I had the honour - I think (in a sort of excitingly and tingly proud way) of being featured on the Tweed Run website gallery. My point is this - Teddy needs a slap on the back for being so splendid - enough said. And while I am disappointed at being too shabby and hungover to register in time this year I wish all the 400 a great time. I look forward to seeing the amazing pictures and reading the wonderful write ups of the event.

My only regret about the Tweed Run,is not the fact about missing the registration - but not thanking Teddy in person on the day (with a brisk handshake) for last year's event.

Teddy - my cap is suitable doffed in respect to you, dear boy. Good luck. Wonderful & fabulous in equal measures.
