  • I bought a set of Profile Airwings but my stem is currently a 25.4 stem, which obviously won't take 26.0 bars. I don't want to waste bar tape on these bars if I'm only going to change them soon. It's very silly I know.

  • Makes sense. Just buy a 26.0 stem :-)

  • For a single speed forum there's an unnerving obsession with gears recently :-)

you can use the same bar tape on several bar mind.

  • They 27" wheels?
    Nope 700c.

  • check out Velo Orange rack, they're a bit pricey but really smart and go well with your Holdsworth;

    no.
the VO rack(s) simply are not strong -- sure, they have the look, but dont expect to carry much of anything. if you want the rando-look but not much else, go with VO.

    there are better, more-functional options.

  • I though they were reasonably strong, the weakness I found on the missus' old bike was the bolt itself wasn't strong enough to sustain the weight, that was sorted when I swap it for some stainless steel one.

but yes, there are some much better more functional option, especially for actual touring, I feel the VO rack are more suitable for light touring.

  • nope

    3-Leading-3-Trailing

Just because some bloke on the internet told you to do it wrong, doesn't make it right. They will probably work, just because modern spoke metallurgy is incredibly tolerant of wheelbuilding stupidity.

  • Cinelli LA84, much too wide for me, looked perfect though.

These are just some old track drops I've cut and turned upside down. Incredibly wank. I'd sand them silver but I don't want to keep them. I'm on the look out for what bars I want. Actually earning some money now so thinking about nice things.

I've a set of Nitto RB-021s ordered, they look beautiful and they give you loads of different positions.

  • aslong as you get the rb021s wide enough that is

The spoke overlaping, close to the hub flange, looks wrong to me. I would have thought all the heads-in spokes should cross the first heads-out spokes on the outside.

  • Not quite finished with the Charge's face-lift yet, but getting there.

Got new tyres on the way, also going to change the chain soon. I've been considering putting some carbon forks on it, and may do in the future... I've also been toying with the idea of removing the decals, but it seems to be a lot of hassle, and i'd only be doing it to make it looks less like a Charge... Maybe though.

So, Frame and Fork are obviously charge, other than that, only the headset remains Charge
    Sorry for the shit pic:

Dura Ace Cranks, Sugino 75 ring.
    CXP33's - Gran Compes
    Thompson Stem
    Arione Saddle
    etc.

I'm gonna guess the only thing you like about the charge is the actuall shape of the frame and how nicely it rides? Get rid of the decals. They might be a bitch, so maybe sticker over them rather than remove them?!

Onza kool chain is the same and cheaper

Surely the point that was being made was that the other brands (often lesser brands) are the reason the chains are cheaper and nowhere near as good. Saying that, I'm yet to try an Onza chain and I know a lot of their stuff is pretty bomb proof. I just get the feeling they'd do as a lot of other companies do, which is use a YBN chain and call it their own.

  • New bar, stem, lever combo.

Just about setup for the tweed run now

  • Charge handlebar? look very classic on that bike, nice one! I'm thinkin of getting it for the holdsworth.

  • Yeh it's the charge one, they've got nice flair to them, and it's quite a shallow drop. only problem I had was with the modern looking etched charge logos, which go right near the stem, had to sand and polish them off, which was a bit of a nightmare.

Wanted to capture something of this with the bar setup.

  • You can try and use soda to remove it.

I love the Charge handlebar because it make a nice tidy moustache bar when flipped upside down, perfect if you have an adjustable stem like those Nitto one.

proper path racer, drop for racing, then upside down for going home.

  • falls asleep

I really like the Charge frame, not so keen on the forks - which i find are a bit spongey, and they don't really make for a tight front end. Having said that, i do (occasionally) trick on the Charge, so carbon forks may not be the best option. With regard to the decals, i do think i'll get round to taking them off eventually, and i'll use platini's idea when i do. I'll probaly do the whole frame, then polish, and then re-laquer with a spray can. I'm not sure how to get the decals off the painted forks though... Anyway, i'm pretty happy with the bike, it's a great daily whip.

  • falls asleep

    or you can try riser...

  • due to the demand (whining and moaning really) i put the finished faggin up. i like it a lot, the way it looks now and feels when let loose. it just so wants to go. enjoy!

  • /\ /\ /\ /

    Finally!!!

    Real nice my friend!!!

See you in spring... please eat a lot of donut and burgers and drink plenty of beer in the meantime!

  • Nice one reeen! how's the cinelli drop?

  • niice.

  • i fuckin' love it. but it seems to not like to be taped up so high. tape starts slipping after 2 weeks or so. nah, maybe i just gotta do it myself next time *shakes head.

  • The Holdsworth is nearly completed, all that left to do is;

saddle (probably an ugly Rido R2 if I find it exceedingly comfortable)
    seatpost (26.6)
    pedals (clips)
    bartape (cottons).

I realise the Nitto bar and stem are not keeping in with the 50's Holdsworth, I already have a Titan stem that's suitable for it but it's a 25 clamp size and it's quite brittle so I can just put a 25.4 bar on it otherwise the stem will break (older than the Holdsworth), the Nitto is the best alternative I can get without worrying about the fragility of it (as well as the crankset, it go with the fillet brazed BB though).
