Looks narrower than k'ruhe's goals? In any case, looks good.
LHBPA, should we invest in a couple of goals like this which, ideally, can be dismantled and thrown in a couple of bags? Maybe début them at the East festival?
-

yep, was thinking that too, Max - why not make them even wider than usual ?
Either way good idea and execution -

we need to get something like this at newington. But where could we store them?
-

If it was easy to take appart it could be divided up amongst people that are regular?
You, Sarah, emmet... Leave the bags of sand in the bushes... I'd be willing to carry a quarter...
Although there is the chance there'd be a week when we'd miss a piece (i'm sure that someone would be able to get peices if people weren't going to make it) it wouldn't be the end of the world to play with comes for a week.

What are our relations like with the council in Southwark? At my local skatepark by my parents' we used to have a lockable box/cupboard type thing where we could store broom/blow torches/other stuff to dry/clean the place. I'm sure between us we could fund/build a plywood locker if we could get permission for it from the council.

A plywood locker is about as safe from thieves/vandals as leaving them in the goals. It would be fun to see how long it lasts, actually.

+1
it would need to be a metal box like the fusebox... It would also need to be cemented down to stop someone just taking the whole thing away...

*yeah those metal boxes at newington are impossible to get into

Something i've been working on:
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9567/img0199i.jpg
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/2651/img0202t.jpgBased on specs from K'ruhe, thanks Recep.
Have punctured hole in orange cap for bungee cord, add replacement hockey net from Canadian Tire $15 (ziptied down). Total price just under $60 . Maybe some sand inside?
Nice one!
I also like the yellow goals in the background! -

i wouldnt wanna draw the short straw:
they def need to be glued to be solid enough, but you could bolt a couple of the joints to make them collapsible at least.
They were loosely based on Krhue specs, they are a little narrower but that can easily be changed.
Everything was purchased at DIY store, which i think is important.. it means that a cheap accesible international goal standard can be put into place easily by a lot of people.
1 x 180cm 2" ABS
2 x 45cm 2" ABS
2 x 80cm 2" ABS
2 x Caps
6 x 90deg 2" ABS Elbows
1 x Bungee
1 x Net -

Surely the long bit can be split? although, split two, two times you've still got a lot of crap.
I still want some.

From my personal perspective i would say it was really important that the goals were flexible in KH - basically every time someone fell on them they would fold up to a certain degree, but then they just get raised up. This saves both the players from injuries, and the goal. I think if they are glued then once the first person falls on them they're fucked.
Having said that i'm no handywoman and don't know much about power tools and how you would go about creating stuff

A, I think they mean glue the pieces together, no glue to the floor. KA goals were metal pipes weld together, Max ones are pieces of plumbing pipe glue together.

Just spotted this thread... i'd sketched up something almost identical as a proposal for a goal to use for the UK champs... will pursue the idea....
MAX: have you impact tested them...?! how do the handle being crashed into...? i'm thinking that i should make 3 goals for the UK Champs so we have a spare should something get trashed...

The vertical poles on the KA goals collapse. There was a number of times during the tourney when someone fell onto the netting and made the poles fold in. A good design because, i guess, if the pole didn't fold in the the net could have snapped.

I don't play polo, so god knows why I have read most of this thread but....I know the bloke who designed these (pic attatched). They were mentioned on the previous page, and if there is any actual interest in adapting them to polo, I'm sure if anyone, he has the system in place to make it happen...mass production, design know-how etc.
Let me know by PM, and I'll have a chat with him.

they played really well tonight, they're half glued and half bolted, with wingnuts. So you can collapse them, don't know how they'd hold up to impact but they've got some flex in them.

The posts look like they lean in, how tight is the elastic + how heavy is the netting..?
We're just about to make a prototype of one of these designs as the potential goals for the UK champs, so any design mods you make would be interesting to hear about....

Make the poles less than half the diameter of a polo ball. That way the ball won't bounce straight back out again.

Use some string (or equiv) from the top of the post to the back corner of the goal to make the netting tighter... it'll be easier to fish balls back out of the goal, etc.

Yeah that's what we were looking at, thinking of using 53mm piping....

if you put sand into plastic bags first then you could still disassemble the pipes (for transport) without the sand spilling.
NIce job max
