That's the issue, With the 23c gators I only have 4mm left to play with!
You may be able to fit in a 25c Marathon Plus. A good tyre if you really don't want punctures.
I also like Ribmos although not many seem to use them?. They come in 25c too and unlike touring tyres are much lighter (folding version) but still as puncture resistant. -

I put some gatorskins on over christmas and got a puncture last weekend. Although I did go through a puthole I've got a feeling I might have put the tube and or tyre on wrong if thats possible?
If the puncture looks like a snakebite you need more air in your tyres. Happened to me about 3 times before i clicked.

meh new tube and rim tape have resulted in a solved problem.
3 years is a long time to be attached to shit, oh well its in the bin now....
didn't stop some cunt in Clapham trying to knock me off though, people deliberately swerving into me never fails to make my blood boil, actually thought about getting my lock out of my bag this time.

ironically the most expensive tubes are usually the worst thin racing light types.
the cheap ones are thicker and stronger. -

Good tyres won't stop everything getting through. Yes, they can go a long way to help reduce punctures, but you can never eliminate them entirely.

Perhaps, but I'm on 3 years with no punctures. That's near eliminated as far as I'm concerned.
Still, I carry tools, no need to tempt fate.6yrs riding in london
0 punctures
win2 years riding road bikes. never happened yet.

Some form of heavy weight schwalbe http://www.schwalbe.co.uk on the mighty iguanadon. High mileage, used everyday, heavy and its on a very very heavy geared bike, never yet had a puncture since I fitted these. From memory the ones I have are not their heaviest but they are certainly not light. This is my day to day get to work on time bike so I went for solidity.
I'm working away at the moment but I'll post the model when I get back.

Sound like the max clearance you can managed are 25c.
I got some 28c Randonneur lying around to see if it fit your clearance if you want.28's won't on the front but will on the back, I took them off my brothers to see. Cheers for the offer though, I reckon 25 will be alright.
?
...
Most of my punctures are from valves falling out. Fucking valves.
This happens 1 time out of 9 when I have a puncture, ironically. Minipumps and Prestas don't mix.

25c actually reasonably comfortable, even though in paper it's only 2c different to 23c.

Continued grief with slow punctures and not so slow ones has lead to an interesting discovery. On trying the "pump it up really very big" approach I noticed that one of the tubes that keeps going down actually rattled when it was rotated!
I cut the tube open and out fell a sharp edged cube of glass, about 2mm on each side, that looked like a windscreen shard. It must have gone right into the tube at some point and been sealed up when I patched it.
Never head of this before, and it has been a bugger. So, check your tubes as well as your tyres kids.

mashton love do you want me to lend you a fiver to buy a new tube?
Really though you've not got a problem until you start finding breadknives inside your inner tubes, if you ask me...

I have had two punctures in the last month in the exact same place. On the edge of the join between the circular part of rubber opposite the valve and the main tube. A pinhole appears and tube goes down overnight.
There is nothing wrong with tyre at this spot but seems odd for two tubes to do the same. The maybe key thing is I am using an 18/25 tube in a large 35c tyre so although the tube can be inflated to fill out the tyre is it possibly the overstretched join that is giving way?
Anyone experienced this?

How is the rim tape around the area?
Mabye the valve hole has a burr or sharp edge or the rim tape has a sharp edge there?Try some bigger tubes..
