By the way, I had a lecture on adhesives and the guy (from loctite) was saying that a good glue should be stronger than the material it's sticking, which he demonstrated with a PU rod, the rupture would not be in the glue but in the material.
So, you could in theory cut your belt and stick it back on. Best cut with an ultrasharp smooth blade to get two matching edges and therefore maximum contact area between the two bits.
