[QUOTE=edscoble;1229596]the difference between the Holga and the Unipack is that the Holga isn't trying to be anything special, it was a cheap camera.
Fair point well made Ed.
My Unipack example sucks a bit.
Holgas have been used in war zones and to follow presidential races to great effect absolutely. They can produce interesting and cool images and cost (relatively) FA true.
But I have students making stunning work with punctured biscuit tins and 50p Box Brownie's from eBay that make £20ish seem like quite a lot.
The images posted above prove, brilliantly, that it's not the camera it's the operator.
The Noctilux image is particularly rank:-0
If used in a series, the fogging/flaring etc can start to appear samey as the imperfections, so beloved of the users, appear in the same or similar place in the frame. That's what I meant by 'the same different' not that they aren't capable of making great pictures.
The original point I was making was that £200+ for a Holga darkroom course smacked of a "I saw you coming" sales pitch based around a fashionable logo.
The basic elements of the darkroom are simple and the Holga is simple so I'm struggling to see how you make a 5 week course out of what should take a day to do.
