The Windmill in Brixton perhaps? Although the Grosvenor in Stockwell do more.
The best place to find out about the shows you'd be interested in would probably be All Ages Records (Pratt Street, Camden).

Speaking of which, Tom dear - me, Matt, Lex, Max and Rox are gonna have a lil Thursday night reunion at Rock City pretty soon (half term?). You in? Gather troops.
yeah i am - hanging out with craig tomorrow so will try and get him involved. when is half term? i am in alaska from june 12th!
I remember seeing the permenant at the old angel in notts at a few alldayers if i remember correctly. first time i saw this thread. good thread.
I've played bass in a couple of bands. most recently Marks get set go! and Affirmation. though that was a few years ago.
I saw the permanent a couple of times i'm sure. Was there something going on with Abandon Ship at one point?
Mastershredder - I am real good friends with Pillay and Fish. You still come to shows in Notts?

me too, I lived just over Battersea bridge and worked on the King's Road in the early eighties, by then Punk had faded a little, it was more proto goth like Bauhaus, Theatre of Hate and The Southern Death Cult, who were great, rockabilly and white funk.
The punks on the King's road were more of a tourist attraction than anything by then, they charged for photos.I wore clothes out of Johnson's and American Classics, wish I still had them.
I was never really into The Pistols, they were more like a boy band, svengali manager, stylist etc. The Clash were much better.
Yeah you are right about the Clash, the Damned where shite and Malcom McClaren was/is a tit. A mate of mine used to be the bassist in Southern Death Cult and I remember them supporting Bauhaus at the Lyceum. Do you remember King Kurt and Eddie Ten Pole Tudor?

YouTube - TRC "Define Cocky" OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO
The more vocalists you have, the more hardcore your band is.
this is fucking hilarious! and so pathetically shit it makes it really harmless.
back on topic though i'm really into bad brains at the moment, i love rediscovering bands i was into 5-6 years ago.

To those who care and don't already know. everyone's favourite posi hardcore band from Kingston, The Steal, have announced this:
Just A Band Hey, So we had our first practice in 8 months last Sunday and it went well, the cobwebs were well and truly dusted off, the cogs were greased and my hands were bleeding by the end... friday should be good fun. Also, in between bouts of tea, coffee and discussing the finer points of Dave's magical prowess we decided that friday would be the last gig we play as the Steal. We think it's a nice end being at the Peel, where we played our first gig 4 years ago. Also playing with Paint It Black, whose member's current and past exploits were a primary influence on us playing the music we do, is a nice touch. We think the band has come to it's natural end and we wanted to give people a heads-up if they wanted come see us one last time. Thanks. Keep Moving Forward. x

This all takes me back, yeah Zarathustra were great, fuck, whatever happened to all those great European bands around like 2004? Stuff like Louise Cyphre, Raein, Gantz, Amanda Woodward, Eaves, Belle Epoque, Kaospilot and American stuff like Neil Perry and Pg.99

...i had that happening to me when recently back at my parents found an old cd of SICK OF IT ALL. It was like going back in time 10yrs. Can't really relate to it now but still amazing sound. And yeah, one of my all time fav bands still is BAD RELIGION.

Haha wooow, this takes me back - Apoplexy Twist Orchestra, Shikari, Funeral Diner, Danse Macabre, Malkovich, End on End, Yage...Eaves and Belle Epoque broke up ages ago I believe (I only know this because they're from around the same place as me), but I think Raien are still around.
Also found pg.99's Document 8 in a record store the other day, but I don't think it had moved since 2004. -

Indeed. But i never have time for needless compartmentalising of genres. Also AOR had a stronger "punk attitude" than most punk/hardcore bands.
As for those other euro bands you mentioned, putting a number of them on in leeds killed pretty much all of my interest in those genres. Only kaospilot were any good and were true gents as well.
Today is all about THE MONORCHID and SKULL KONTROL. unfuckwithable.
I have been trying to track down a record for a while due to the lovitt empire 4 way split 7" with frodus, bluetip and the monorchid. The four band was the shivers and the track was woodie. It was pretty good and i have wanted to hear any of their other related material. They changed name to the ruby dare and put out "lurk late and strike straight" on scene police. Soulseek and torrent hunting has failed me. Anyone else heard this record/have a copy they could upload for me/is it any good?
danke! -

True. That reminds me, got to get the AOR dvd!

sunshine for shady people! i really want a copy of that too! Slightly controversially i think they were at their best when they had a bassist.
When i get asked what sort of music i listen to i use AOR, christian fennesz and grouper as suggestions for people to check out. I rarely get people wanting to discuss music with me again after that.

i didnt realise anyone still posted in here
im happy they do, glad someone brought up the kinda screamo/hardcore revival stuff
ie pg99 raein etc, i got into this stuff a couple of years ago through saetia
and cant get my ears enough of the stuff -
• #167
So little of that stuff stands the test of time unfortunately.
I'll still happily give any of the orchid records a spin mind. The new orchid/bronson band "failures" is pretty great!
-
• #168
Raein had that song with the ridiculous "This is my tiger suit" breakdown?
-
• #169
Yeah. To be fair most of the stuff doesn't stand the test of time, but I'm still looking forward to the new Circle Takes The Square record if that ever arrives.

My friend said 'for £20 I expect to see Eric Allen rise from the grave'. Enough with the reunions already.
-
• #172
all reunions are irrelevant.
except the festival of dead deer reunion. This is greatest old news that is new news to me in a long time.

Good band, shame its come to an end^^^
Not so much into hardcore (maybe mainly cos I don't know much) but (US) punk - Screeching Weasel/Riverdales/The Queers/Dead Kennedys/Operation Ivy etc
I've been told there's a pub in Brixton that has punk gigs on every so often but I can't remember the name - anyone know?
