  • disapppeared - worth c and p'ing all the details when these are spotted so the ad can't disappear.

if people post an actual photo and agree to meet you at their house then i'm reasonably happy buying off gumtree. obviously there are other factors to take into account as well, but.

Always worth putting the cached link to Gumtree ads as they come and go so quickly.

Googling the mobile reveals many listings for (stolen) bikes under different names, same number. :(

    Here's another, http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:48UhrmCTRQQJ:http://www.gumtree.com/london/60/53919860.html+07552984116&cd=19&hl=en&ct=clnk

I wonder if some Robin Hood type started making appointments to meet at a tube station then showed up with a few burly buddies to kindly relieve these thieves of their stolen goods, and then word got around that that was happening... would it change anything? Or would thieves just find another outlet. It's a nice thought anyway.

  • No site cache = annoying
Friend of mine has a SS with Carb forks stolen and that could've been it
    Taken down after 9 hours..

was it baby blue with brown bar tape and odd wheels

sorry for not writing down details

  • "brainchild" -not really rocket science is it?

  • @ Brader
Nah it wasn't. Thanks for identifying it though XD

  • Not sure why I've been moderated on this thread but I posted the Google cached link to that bike, here it is again.

This is a red adult track bike I am selling for £90

These track bikes dont have gears.
The Breaks, tyres and everything works fine (thin tyres)

It is a exellent bike, it is big but not sure of exact measurments

Condition is alright, obviously not brand new but still reasonable condition

Sorry pictures are not so good

Text me today as I might not be able to answer calls
07722745315 - I need to sell it today - no offers

buyer needs to collect from west hampstead train station and if you want to test it then I need cash in hand first.

    Spotted on bikeshd.co.uk

Picture is geared racer, which I think I've previously seen on gumtree / stolen bike thread. EVERYTHING about this screams stolen track bike, so if someone's had a red bike nicked, worth going along to see if it's yours? Whatever he's talking about, it certainly isn't the bike in the photo!!

I DID see it earlier: googled his phone number... [ame="http://www.google.fr/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=07722745315&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8"]07722745315 - Recherche Google[/ame] and presto. He's also robbed a shitty mountain bike and a laptop.

  • Had my wheels (green weinmann V's) and saddle (Brooks B17 special) nicked of my bike on saturday outside the Oxfam on Kingsland road. Was literally in there for 10-15 minutes.

Long shot I konw but if anyone sees or hears of any dodgy looking bike ads with lime green wheels and a brooks please let me know. jamiemwood at gmail dot com

  • "My bike was stolen on Friday night locked up outside the Victory pub on Vyner St, Hackney, London.

    he's not the first to have it stolen outside the Victory pub, it's a hotspot for thieves who probably live locally near the pub;

the guy who seen it says he's seen him do it before on Vyner street and lives in one of the housing estates at the end of the street...

  • he's not the first to have it stolen outside the Victory pub, it's a hotspot for thieves who probably live locally near the pub;

Are there any pubs/restaurants that offer secure facilities for bikes?

  • Nope, just pub that doesn't have thieving scallywag nearby (like the Coach and Horse).

  • are you allergic to plurals?

  • They were stolen.

  • How were they locked?

  • Hello Everyone,

My Pinnacle Bachelor - thought the name appropriate when I bought it - was stolen just off Old Street on Friday night.

Its a Size large. White Bar tape, changed from original black.

Also changed the pedals to Silver ones.

If you see it please lock it up if you can and give me a ring. I'll get down there ASAP.

    Thanks a lot

  • Sorry to hear about that mate, can you tell us what lock you use, how did you lock it, how long has it been locked up for etc.

these question may help you more than you'd think, especially for your next bike to ensure it won't get stolen again.

  • are you allergic to plurals?

    They were stolen.

    How were they locked?

Harsh but funny and worthy of a quote.

    Nice teamwork.

  • Yeah sure,

I used an Onguard Rottweiler armored cable lock. Bike was locked to a sign-pole. I think they loosened the sign and lifted the bike the whole way through. I didn't find any trace of the lock in the area. I was gone for about 1.5 hours.

    Thanks for your help,

    Ma'n

  • Sorry for your loss, hopefully you may get it back.
Next time, please consider using something more secure than a £20 cable lock to secure it with.

Check this thread for some great advice:

EDIT: i'm not trying to be arsey here, just pointing out where you could help yourself out for next time. Which is in itself a shame - we shouldn't have to lug around ££s and KGs worth of locks just to leave a bicycle in a public area in daylight for a couple of hours. But as a wise man once said, "this is London my friend".

  • Pretty much, but because of the nature of bike thief in London, you'd need a stronger lock sadly.

The lock that you use are very easy to cut, take no longer than a couple of second as if it were a piece of cotton string, now that you know this, you can put this knowledge down to experience and purchase a stronger lock that will deterred theft easily for your next bike, don't forget to have a good look at the Lock That Work topic mattty suggested.

Least you know how your bike got stolen and found a way to prevent it next time (and it's not your fault for using a cheap lock).

  • Round Arsenal stadium they've started taking portable grinders to D-Locks, while hiding under blankets! Thieves target events like football matches where they can be fairly sure they won't be confronted by the owner until the event is over.

I use locking skewers called Pitlocks which are ridiculously expensive (around £40 the pair), but you can lock your bike any old how and not worry about the wheels. I've never lost a bike that way. I lose bikes because I think, Surely I can nip in to the shop for half a minute without locking up...

  • Round Arsenal stadium they've started taking portable grinders to D-Locks, while hiding under blankets!

It currently looks as if that was just one person, who has now been deterred. Let's hope he doesn't return.

Christ! your kidding, they'd steal the skin off your shit in London
