  • I hadn't had any in ages, then last thursday I had 4. 2nd was my fault as I hadn't cleaned the inside of the tyre properly, I've no idea why I had a flat as I left work. Then to top it all my tyre wall blows out with a tremendous bang outside houses of parliament..

    shitty day

I've just clocked over 1000 miles for the year this morning

  • I hadn't had any in 6 months and got two in two days of riding this week, Both in the front, But with different tyres! Glass both times so i'm guessing from the same place?

  • 6yrs riding in london
    0 punctures
    win

you've jinxed it, i bet you get one today!

  • 6 months of riding with no punctures and the only one for a year before that was because i wore through the tire to the inter tube.

then this week I've had 3 slow punctures so far and cannot find any leaks. i think the old patches on my inner tubes have given up the ghost, as i havent bought an inner tube since 2007.

going to treat myself to some new ones today.

  • Dunk it in water to find the leaks.

  • I only get a flat when I think to myself 'I haven't had a puncture in so long...', next day - hissssssssssss..flat.
Exactly the same for me, I've done over 3000 miles on my current tyres (conti gatorskins) with no punctures, then on Wednesday I have a massive shard of glass go straight through the rear tyre. Then today I had the front go. Remove tube, check tyre, fit new tube, cycle on... PSSSSSSSST. Needless to say I was late for work.

Time for new tyres, I think.

  • are they glueless patches ted?

if so you may hear an odd clicking noise which is the air coming out

    how did the wheelbuild go?

  • such a show off. How many miles ? 1 -2 ?

only because you got more puncture than Petes Burn's facelift.

  • Oh, and don't ride in the gutter :)

you shouldn't ride near the gutter anyway, it's riskier than riding near the middle of the lane.

  • Provided you're in relatively slow moving traffic, I wouldn't advise this on a dual carraigeway.

  • Glueless patches yes, water for finmd the turnips has yielded no bubble sergei and the wheel build is due to eb completed when i arrive home

  • Valve may be slowly leaking?

  • I have lost faith in Armadillos. They used to wear evenly but my 4th tyre have now developed the same fault whereby the rubber has prematurely separated from the canvas. l'm not a big skidder and less than 700miles I doubt this is due to a dodgy batch as this is over 2yr period and a few riders up ere have suffered the same problem.

Gonna try the Vittoria Paves next.

  • Do you commute in London? If so, I'd strongly recommend you don't get Vittoria Paves. They are expensive lightweight racing tyres that won't last on London's mean streets.

  • Manchester but our roads are just as sh*t.
Re paves. Really? Paris-Roubaix proven (OK, tubular version).
    Sigh... back to drawing board.

  • Paves are awesome.. but I wouldn't use them for commuting. They're like £30 a pop.
I run Rubino Pro most of the time. Some people (who don't know how to ride) complain about lack of grip but I've not had any issues.

  • I agree, Paves are superb tyres, but for racing in the wet or on cobbles. I used a pair as winter tyres a couple of years ago and they were cut to shreds in about a month by flinty Surrey and Kent lanes. I'd imagine that city streets would kill them in half that time.

  • At the moment I've still got one on the front of the good bike.
Since Tour of Flanders last year, Pyrenees, etc. So it's done quite a few miles.
At the moment though the roads are fucking horrid so any good tyres would be cut to shit.
I had a flat when I got to the bike tonight (Rubino Pro). There's just so much shit on the roads it's impossible to avoid.

  • Today I found I'd got to the webbing on my rear dura/gatorskin. Not really sure what to go for next, whilst the puncture protection is great on them, they're a bitch to get on and off the rim (I don't carry around a bottle of fairy) and the sidewall issue has really put me off another set.

  • nil since i've been using maxxis refuse, which is ~4 months

My maxxis refuse ripped across almost the entire width within the first 20 miles of riding it.

  • had a halfords £12 700x23 coupled witha specialized inner tube on my back wheel for about 6 months only had 1 puncture and the tyres still gt some grip left no skidding though, had the same on the front and got a puncture weekly until i put a conti tyre on the front and it got sliced wide oen by a piece of glass first time i rode on it! good ol' continental!!!!!!!!!

    touring tyres, sorted.

may not grip that well, but you'll never have another puncture again, and it doesn't need to be expensive, check tyres clearance on your track frame though.

  • That's the issue, With the 23c gators I only have 4mm left to play with!

  • Sound like the max clearance you can managed are 25c.

I got some 28c Randonneur lying around to see if it fit your clearance iif you want.

    ?

    ...

Most of my punctures are from valves falling out. Fucking valves.
