    Always a good idea, you never know if you might not liked it, also if you managed to build up your conversion cheaply (says under £100 easily), you're not losing much and it always nice to have a 'beater' that you just use to go around town and lock it up without any worry.

    ask around, ask friends, relative if they have any old bike, fully build (IN YOUR SIZE, make sure it fit you reasonably well), car boot sales etc. eBay a little expensive for cheap second hand road bike.

    after that, concentrate on sorting the bike out, get new or second hand back wheel, chain etc. and bob your uncle (if the road bike have a single chainring up front, perfect).
