That's really only what people do who haven't been on CM a lot. They get overexcited and carried away. It goes in phases--you get people like that for a few months, then they drop off again.
It is important that forumengers who come along familiarise themselves a little bit with how to ride on CM--i.e., you have to ride really slowly if you want to keep it together, stop not infrequently at junctions until everybody has caught up, be disciplined about helping with corking, etc.

+1 on the keeping the mass together with waiting and corking. Incidentally, it was good to witness the excellent and polite corking at Paul's funeral procession by stalwart members of this forum.
