• I won't be dressing up. I hope that others who don't really dig fancy dress won't be put off by this.

@mikec. Not everyone who goes on CM goes for some campaigning reasons, as such. Please don't get all reactionary about it! Like *m.f said, we can have some races and have some fun! It's BLOODY GREAT when we get lovely roads all to ourselves, like park lane or somewhere like that. We can and will make CM what we want it to be - when I go I certainly don't do any of that waving your bike in the air, standing around crossroads shouting, and I tend to try to avoid causing any unnecessary inconvenience to motor traffic that may have had to wait for us to pass. Not everyone there thinks that riding around together is some kind of 'demo' or that we are 'saving the planet'. Some people are there simply because it is enjoyable to be with other cyclists and take part in our city in this way, being sociable was we cyclists are blessed with the means to be with each other as we travel. To make travel enjoyable and not a chore. To enjoy each other's company for a little while before we head off into the 'normal' traffic.

Perhaps the best thing we could do to help reduce carbon emissions is not to cycle more, but just to use less carbon fuels and plastic products, use less electrical things and use cars less. And have less children. I don't see the argument for cycling, per se, as being 'green'. It's LESS harmful than other ways to travel, I grant the campaigners that. Being green is perhaps composting, planting trees, dealing with chemical waste, or restoring natural habitats. Not travelling.

    Just saying, loike.
