  • the sharpness is down to the F/stop, to put it in presceptive, a large format equation of a 50mm F/1.4 lens (35mm), is actually 188mm at F/5.3, (using 5x4 as a reference).

    an 86mm lens on a large format 5x4 would be equal to a 23mm with an F/stop of give or take, 0.1 on a 35mm camera, and at F/0.1ish, there's no surprise why it's not very sharp.

    The lens would be idea on medium format, since that'd give you an 35mm equation of 44mm F/0.6, it's still a useless f-stop since it'd be very diffcuilt to manual focus (unless it's a rangefinder), an example would be this photo taken with a 50mm F/1.0 lens, very fast but not exactly idea for everyday photography unless you're a narrow depth of field junkie.
