Personally, it is eBay, so I would enter what I would max willing to pay, cross my fingers and I see what happens. True, that is how I always do it. Of course I would not unveil my interest not to mention my max on public forums.
On your 400 estimate: It is certainly less than it was new and you can't have a similar quality frame built for that money today. Good luck. Very bad time for selling frames, so you could very well be lucky.

Cool, thanks Zieleman, just curiosity on my part really as to the value (or perceived value) of an unusual Gazelle. I will watch it but whether or not I decide to bid is another matter. Will be interesting to see what it does go for though :)

I just go my old Gazelle Champ. Mondial back from the painters..
Does anyone know from which year this bike is (Zieleman or Dutch Cheese)
I had it repainted via Erik from Neerkant and he thinks the bike is from the late 60's.
It has BCM (Bocama?) lugs but not the longpoint ones (they are more chunky) and some reinforcements on the inside of the front fork legs (i've never seen this on other Champ.Mondials with double crown forks..) Trackends and front drops are Campagnolo.Erik also told me that in the old days Gazelle had some special order frames (probabely for pro's) made by Eroba in Limburg.. It has all the characteristics of a Gazelle (wrap around seat stays and everything) but it looks a bit different.. I'll post some more pics soon!
The number is: 2274213

Nice one Chaim. What parts you putting on there?!

Depends on what year its from Tom.. The only problem is that the frame is not my size, it's to damn small! But i'll shine nicely above my couch ;)

For that serial# late 60s sounds plausible to me. No idea of exact year.

Hey dicki, yep, slightly more than I would have liked. But that was the reserve ($600) and thankfully it didn't go over, despite some keen bidding from someone else around the $400 / $500 mark. Now the auction's over here's a link Zieleman kindly shared with me where an almost identical frame went for £350, not sure how long ago that was though:
http://www.fivenineclimber.com/bikes/gazelle/other_frames/731os.htm
I'm happy as it completes my Gazelle collection. I have the track frame that a friend gave me and I'd always hankered after a nice road frame. This one is a bit unusual in a number of ways, not least the tubing and the seat stays, and certainly should be very light. I'm a happy Gazelle bunny :)

oh wow you bought it
superb news
it is a beaut lovely colour scheme
congratulations

Gazelle did a lot of resprays of their own frames but stopped doing this a few years ago. It was very common a Gazelle frame got a respray every few years to make it younger.
They even don't make their own frames any longer... Taiwan took over production. -

Thanks very much dicki, keeping it in the family so to speak (of this thread at least) :)
It was Zieleman sending me the link that swung it, I thought if it goes for around £350 / £375 then I'm in. So it's his fault really. I will of course be sending him the invoice ;)
By the way people, what groupset would best suit this frame or would have been typical of the period? Thanks.

Congrats!
Groupset: TVM team raced with Dura Ace, so that is what 1st pops up in my head. Alternatively: Record, Chorus, final ed Superbe... Mavic Zap?

My first road bike was a Batavus Professional. A former Batavus teambike from 1978 in Reynolds 531 with Shimano Dura Ace (got my 1st Gazelle in 1984, the 1st in a long row).
Hej, this is a very nice picture of a good "friend" of mine.
It's Geert/Gerard Schipper, winner of Tour of Holland and World Champion TTT in Goodwood, together with Maarten Ducrot, Frits van Bindsbergen and Gerrit Solleveld.
Gerard was a very nice chap, besides being a member of the Batavus squad, he was also my clubmate.
We trained and raced together. Even did some TTT together e.g. national championships. He was was one the best time trialists of his generation, world champion and I was a young amateur, barely able to hold his wheel...
Nice times though.Intermezzo! No Gazelle, but another Dutch: Batavus.

It was the crossbike of ex-team Batavus rider Egbert Koersen.
A while ago, I visited Egbert Koersen (I know him well and he lives quite close to me).
He still has his Batavus time trial bike from the early 1980's with original equipment DA EX and AX. Doesn't want to sell it though.
I can imagine he got rid of his 'cross bike. -

Sorry for the shitty pic, but does someone now anything about this Gazelle?
Gazelle track bike with a re-batched Asian alu frame.
Same as you can rent in the Apeldoorn velodrome.
Looks like a "ROC Aventus" edition. -

Very happy with my new Gazelle bought from rih. White saddle, new bar tape and plain gumwall tyres without the blue and she's a beaut. Can't believe in how good a nic it's in. Looking forward so much till I can put it to some good use on LEJOG

A nearby shop is selling this neat Gazelle 'Stayer' example >>>
A very rare gem and nice to complete a little collection of Gazelle bikes. Also great for what it is made for of course!

• #323
wierd looking machines those
why do they need so many supports ... saddle support handlebar support x2 even with the big gear are they really under that much more stress ?

How much $$$ is it, roughly ?
-
• #325
Roughly 500, but that is the 'collected' price me fears.
Zieleman, what do you say then if you had to? Even if it doesn't have the Noblex are we talking roughly around £400 here? (By the way I love the colours!)
dicki, thanks for your feedback dude, if it goes for £250 that sounds pretty good to me but I'm no expert either. Like you I just know that Gazelles generally rock and the Gazelle's of Dieren (at least for me) are the epitome of simple, elegant, craftsmanship in steel frames.
