  • I recently got Halo AeroWarrior rims which are advertised as 'fixed freestyle' or 29er rims. They're 25mm wide my old dp18's were 19mm and to get 32c tyre's on and off was near impossible.

  • Availability of 29" puncture resistant, long lasting slick tyres?
    Not so hot i'd imagine.

  • isn't 29" 700c? It confuses me.

  • isn't 29" 700c? It confuses me.

Just done some googling and it would seem you are right.
Well if i start getting problems with my tyres rolling off the rims il maybe go for some 29er mtb rims but il wait and see.

  • Just out of curiosity i started looking at mtb 29" rims.
The Mavic TN719 has an erto size of 622x19
    Mavic say use tyres 1.5 - 2.3
Sheldon says 19mm rim width = max tyre width 44mm which = 1.73"

If Mavic are happy to push the max tyre width recommendation for their mtb rims then surely there can't be much danger in pushing the width of tyre used on a road rim by a similar amount?

  • I have run 40c on an Open Pro quite happily. Not sure whether it is a good idea though!

Yes 29er is 700c but the point of saying 29er is that it means the wider MTB rims rather than 700c which means a road rim. They are mostly disc specific so no braking surface and a slightly lighter rim. Some of the 29er rims are almost on a par weight wise with a decent 700c (Open Pro)

  • does anyone know if the stickers come off the fame?

No, only the size, tange and hotwheels stickers come off .

  • /attachments/20951arrived today, built and ridden this evening, took all the parts of my volume cutter the scissor feels much more sure footed, only gone for 32s on the tyres as anything wider will roll of my b43s, am looking to sell these and get chuckers, otherwise im loving it managed a triple barspin with ease as minimal overlap, keo spun fairly easily although a little more sticky to spin due to the wider tyres, in the half hour i have ridden it i just wanted to rag it around, its got that playfull feel to it, yeahhhh
    well pleased :)

  • Price of f&f on Winstanleys is now up to £320 (compared to the £250 it was), looks like they cottoned on to the fact that they were undercutting everyone else by loads.

To be fair though, £179 for the frame was stupidly cheap.
I got mine at trade and it wasn't a huge amount less than that.

    Might be your best bet

  • Is it possible to barspin with the front brake fitted?

  • finding someone who has actually fitted a front brake may be difficult!

  • Is it possible to barspin with the front brake fitted?

Sure. Just route the cable through the steerer, BMX style.

  • Sure. Just route the cable through the steerer, BMX style.

Thats the easy part, the hard part is finding a brake that will work with an upward cable routing.

  • Where actually has these in stock to ship straight away, everywhere seems to be out of stock still? Is the first batch all sold out?

  • Realise the Scissor is not a weight weenies bike but just in case anyone wanted to know approximate weights, they are;

    Small frame = 2.2kg
    Scissor fork = 1.4kg

  • just spoke to csg, they have 2 small frames in stock and no meds till next week , forks in both colours are availiable.
    hope this helps

BMX Shop? Or is the drop too long? Obv not the U-brake style but I'm sure there are plenty of old style BMX caliper brakes out there.

Should work fine on a 26" wheel, if thats your cup of tea.

  • with the bmx style front breaks you can swap over the adjuster and put it in place of the pinch bolt and the pinch bolt in place of the adjuster this will give you the upward cable routing you need if you want to run a front break. As said in a previous post the hard bit will be finding a break with the correct drop.We are building a scissor for a customer at the moment and he has requested a front break so when we do i will post what break we have used.

  • Easiest/most aesthetically pleasing/most functional option would be to use a disc but obv counts out using the stock fork.
