    Video is great! In

  • Might it not be too warm for tweed by then?

  • oh please come and morris dance at the tweed run!

Welsh Border Morris dancing kit isn't exactly tweed! I might try and borrow something more traditional though! ;-)

Looked in every charity shop in Brentwood today, nothing! :-(

  • aw thanks, will do. my mum and dad will be so chuffed. they'll take it to church and show their friends i bet.

    awww

  • should have saved yourself some time and gone straight to see JD , he could have kitted you out and you would have been free to falafel your way through the entire afternoon in londons funky camden.

  • There is a dearth of tweed in my local charity shops though. I'm going to have to try the Walworth Road...

  • Looked in every charity shop in Brentwood today, nothing! :-(

Brentwood? I used to go to school there, where abouts do you live?

Oh and me and the gf are in

  • Might it not be too warm for tweed by then?

Good point. I'll PM the organiser with our concerns, perhaps he'll let us wear shorts and t-shirts?

  • If I turn up on the day and I've forgotten my tweeds, will I have to do it in my underpants?

  • If I turn up on the day and I've forgotten my tweeds, will I have to do it in my underpants?

Only if they are tweed underpants.

  • Localised chaffing will ensue.
    Pass the Vaseline, nursey.

  • Some excess tweed for sale - proceeds to Bikes4Africa (Teddy - tell me where to send a cheque)

Green tweed breeks - 32/33" waist but my current 34" burst the clasp off the front, so will need some repair! £15 plus whatever the postage is (I'm near Manchester...)

Harris Tweed jacket, 40"-ish - actually, still for sale: £30 plus postage

    PM me to bag either.

  • Your comfort will depend on the weight of your tweed. Personally, for that time of year 1' d suggest wearing nothing over 13oz...

  • I've got a Dunn tweed hat that is too small for my (admittedly massive) bonce for sale if anyone wants it?

    100% Harris Tweed - it's a 54 / 6 & 5/8 size. Slate and egg shell coloured ish:

£7 from souths, or via the fgss bush telegraph to other drinks / polo / rollapaluza

  • I've heard it's the Ripley cycle jumble on the same date. Can anyone confirm this as correct and whether it's feasible to get back from Ripley in time for the Tweed Run?

  • I have some 1940's staff issue motorcycle breeches . . i fear these will leave me for dead! I may have to look at making some new custom tweed pants in time for the run . . wheres that pesky sewing machine

  • I've got a brand new bike for this. Well not brand new, it seems to be vintage. I was passing through Marlborough when I spotted an old looking steel framed town bike in a charity shop. It's dark green with a double top tube, a roll under kickstand, nice swept back handlebars, 3 speed Surmey Archer with a coaster brake and Brooks style saddle. It's hard to tell how old the bike is owing to a lack of head badge. The all around chainguard says Capital. It's clearly been recently reconditioned as the brake levers are plastic and the dynamo is labeled with some form of Asian ideographs. Nonetheless, it's classic looking and will go well with a nice set of tweed. £80 but it was for charidee and any working bike in decent condition of decent build should be worth that much to a deserving seller.

  • ^^ double top tube do you mean in the mixte frame sense or the old butchers bike style? similar to what pashley have recently produced.
    pictures please.

  • Bwa ha ha ha ha

    I might have been had.

This is my new bike courtesy of made-in-China.com.

Still, it has had the rear wheel replaced with a Sturmey Archer 3 speed with coaster brake.

Nevermind, the quality of build seems sturdy and I reckon I can make a nice ride out of it. Less concerned about looking for classic styled parts though.

thank you so much for sending the magazine. my parents were so chuffed, i think my mum spent the whole afternoon knocking on neighbours doors showing them the picture. mum called me and left a sweet voicemail message which was her giggling and reading every single line on the page. i am sure that tomorrow morning before church the check list will be in this order; london cyclist magazine, sweets and treats for children and oh yeah,,, bible.

    cheers skydancer.

  • That looks heavy.

  • It's an absolute tank.

I shall ride it with the pride of a genuine fool.
