  • waits for the ma3k corpse screaming at miche hubs

  • I have miche low flange and I like them. cheap and look good. new lockring is mandatory though..

whats wrong with'em? specificaly what fails?

  • yeh wtf? i've had mine for ages without a single problem and theyve even been crashed into a car door at quite some speed

  • whereas the formula hub ive got on the back is now pretty stiff and theres something wrong with the axle

  • miche: Hub body made of cheese, lockring made of cheese + italian threads makes replacements expensive, Nuts are crap, Axles are crap.

Formula: "ugly cutouts(if not condor), regular bearings, nice forged body, non hassle no tool required user replacable bearings, normal chainline, heavy duty axle, locknuts sometimes crack can be replaced with d-ace or any steel kind,
the only issue i see is the bearings....buy a phil specced for 12 a pair and be done with" Broken_777

Despite selling hundreds of Formula hubs we rarely see them with serious problems, or any problems that can't be resolved with new bearings. Conversely we don't sell miche products (cos their shit) and see a reasonably number of fucked and totaly fucked hubs.

  • think those formulas from condor only come in a 32, as do the on-one pistas. i'll probably just get some dia compes and cross my fingers unless a better nugget of opinion drops. Frame will be darker than i thought so going to go for silver now. Thanks for all the advice though, now i'm properly confused.

you'd imagine something like a hub (main function spin round and hold spokes) would be pretty easy to get right. obviously not.

    B.

  • It is:

    Formula or Phil
    Easy.

  • Edit: Or Hope :P

  • ok lets start with miche - CNC'ed body, cracking flange same as goldtec, stoopid miche only l-ring thread, lockring is alloy piece of crap that will seize if ridden in nasty enough weather followed by rounding of all the notches....then lots of work with file/vise/hacksaw to remove it, axle has no steps so when you wanna remove the bearings on the other side you need a special DIY tool ot lots of patience and bent screwdriver........what else....that would be it I believe.....lets not even start with miche bottom bracket or their wonderful cog/carrier combo.....

  • ^I'm selling my wheels. hahahah

  • I have one question though: how was able to fit a standard (i think) dura ace cog on my miche hub? whats not compatible? only the lock ring? I got a new one, but miche too. it seems better quality than the one that came with the hub..

  • impeccable timing! was just installing a used miche bottom bracket. Not gonna bother now. just gonna spit at it. Whats so shit about them?

  • I have one question though: how was able to fit a standard (i think) dura ace cog on my miche hub? whats not compatible? only the lock ring? I got a new one, but miche too. it seems better quality than the one that came with the hub..

On the new Miche stuff just the lockring thread is different, Campag ones or Phil ones or something fit but it's a pain.
I had an older Miche Primato and it had crazy size track nuts too, couldn't get replacements, just had to watch them go rusty.
    Gladly rid of it now.

  • ok, thanks!

  • The factory has moved to taiwan no?
    Or am I confused?

you are confused, and in fact, wrong.

all rumours and BS. still made up north where they always have been.

best thing you can do with goldtec's is speak to BETD direct...see here:

    http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/about.asp

call them and talk to a guy called Dan...supernice guy and first rate customer service. all this shit about moving manufacturing is simply that...as is the stuff about bearings falling out.

    they roll like a dream.

    Harry...who makes BLB's hubs?

  • they are made by Formula.

Okay, so they are still based in the UK and I got confused about that. In that case they must have just made their manufacturing process cheaper or summit. As you can pull the bearings out with your fingers (they don't fall out).

Why do I need to speak to BETD? I don't like their hubs, I don't own any, I never plan to own any, I've seen enough through the shop to know I don't like them and that they are crap. Irrespective of where they are made, how nice their customer service is, how friendly some guy called dan is. I really couldn't give a toss. I'm just interested in the components quality to price ratio, and on that one Goldtec fail, Miche fail, apparently suzue buget fail an so on.

  • trust you to put your fingers in holes that most men don't

  • I'm sorry?

  • whats wrong with suzue?

  • I fail to see how Primatos fail the "quality to price ratio"?
You are right, they're not the best hubs by a very long shot, and I know they certainly score very low on the hipster value index (mainly due to their low price and the fact that you need to be a bit handy to swap parts out on them), but at £50 a pair the "quality to price ratio" is pretty good. Mine were £50 about 5500 miles ago, dunno what they cost now.

  • ^^is it any coincidence that you work in blb and are promoting formula/blb hubs over any other? will have to change your username to harry major-spammer

only joking...i have one set of blb hubs - which are lovely looking - and one set of pretty gorgeous goldtec's. i find the goldtec's superior in every department (naturally that might change if i crack a flange).

explain this...i was running the blb's on a steel frame at 46x16 and skidz™ were happening but were hard work. now running the same crank with the goldtec's on an ali frame, same GI and skidz™ are like lionel ritchie on a sunday morning. different chain, frame and weight distribution, same tyre and the rest. i just figured the goldtec hubs were stiffer and making for a better drive train all round than the blb's. am i deluded? (pls restrict answers re. my deludedness to the context of my theory on hubs and their effect on ones ability to do skidz™)

  • On the new Miche stuff just the lockring thread is different, Campag ones or Phil ones or something fit but it's a pain.

EAI ones work and are identical to the Phil item

  • I fail to see how Primatos fail the "quality to price ratio"?

You can't get Primatos in pink though, M7.

  • anyone knows where i can get planet x hubs online other than planet x's website? they have a 16pounds postage charge to portugal that must be a joke..

have you had any problems with your miche hubs? cos if you haven't i wouldn't go making myself another wheelset. and if mine explodes i'll come and buy a spok off harry major in his shop
