Because he can get the train without being turned back for having a bike that would block exits.
If your bike can be reduced to fit within a 1m square, then you have no issues taking it on even a commuter train.
Though I don't think I'll be testing that by taking my Mather apart. They seem to just think of Bromptons and nothing else.
