I just give the chain a squirt of GT85 then run it through an old rag for 10-15 revs of the crank when I get home, then give it another quick squirt in the morning before leave for work. I check the tyres for stones at the same time, so it only takes a minute. GT85 drys out and leaves PTFE on the chain so it doesn't attract crap. And its cheap.
Works for me and I do 14 miles each way on shitty country lanes in all weather
