  • alright guys?
on wednesday my beautiful black condor potenza was nicked outside of westminster university on the marylebone road.
if anyone sees her about or down bricklane market this weekend then let me know.
she is 49frame fixed, italien map underneath, potenza written in white on top tube, condor email on rear stays, condor white decals, black carbon forks, black miche wheels miche sticker on rear all way round rim/ pista sticker on front rim, faded brown continental front tyre, faded black continental back tyre, black raceblade rear, thomson silver seat post, specialized black carbon race sadde, yellow green tape(20mm) on both rear stays, sorn of bull horns with a mix of green/yellow and italian bar tape finished off scrappily with black tape...stops short a the ends so you can clearly see the hacked off bull horns, typical black dirt harry front brake attached on offside handle bar, typical cheese campag brake blocks, new chain, spd's, miche crank/arms, bog standard headset/stem, general seat post collar.
prettiest pony in the stables..shiny, quiet as a church mouse, silky ride, perfect balance....obviously i am massively biasied but i have had my heart broken into a thousand pieces by the mean arsehole who stole it, who has proably stripped her bare and whored her off...what a C*NT :(

Please keep your eyes peeled.....thank you.

  • Sorry to hear this dude, good luck.

  • sorry to hear, will keep a lookout.

  • thanks, appreciated

    More details please?! D-Lock lasso?

(I dream of this happening to me and still eye every passing bike with suspicion - after 15 years you'd think I'd have moved on...)

  • it was in golden sq. he was a korean student working in a restaurant in the square and had bought it off gumtree. "pistoffski" of lfgss saw the deal and PM'ed me so i went down to old st (where he bought it) every day for like a week. one day i saw it so followed him to the restaurant on a beater. ran in with the help of two danish fixed gear guys who were sitting in the park and showed him the serial number. I gave him £75 cos he had paid £150 so i thought this was fair (fucking thief wins again). But the thief had put a new wheel, stem, handlebars and brake setup on so i didnt mind paying the extra dosh. Was a great day. londons not as big as youd think. here's my post by the way: http://www.lfgss.com/thread28833.html

  • Thanks for the reply - I recall reading that thread now :-)

    Memory fail on my part...

  • Why is everyone saying they'll keep a look out?

I'm not the most trusting of people, sorry, and I'd want to know HOW the bike was stolen.

If for example, it was left unlocked at Oxford Circus, while the owner popped into H&M.Hennes for half an hour, and returned to find their unlocked bike had vanished......I wouldn't keep an eye out at all.

Its seems to be becoming more common that people have their bikes stolen, but didn't really secure the bike at all, then come crying on here. If the bike is not secured, what would anyone expect? As the Sage Dale says, This Is London My Friend.

I still haven't forgotten the arsehole that came crying about their stolen bike, and to gain sympathy, lied and said that the bike was locked with TWO Fagh Minis! Yes, he scarpered and never returned after I challenged his lie.

I'm hoping gloved pony replies, and gives some (honest) background to the theft. Silence, when asked to add info, normally isn't a very good sign. But I shall wait before forming a real opinion.

come on now, shit happens and people get upset and people lie to protect their feelings. It's quite common ya know.

a bit harsh man, i would offer to keep an eye out for anyone, locked bike or not. i would have read this differently if you hadn't implied gloved pony was being silent for a reason, he/she might be out looking for the bike.

  • Gloved Pony wears Srve ladies black cotton pants so I'm guessing he's a she.

Even if she'd locked her bike up with some ten quid cable lock, Ashe, it's a pretty harsh lesson to learn. I'm sure you'd be the first to post on here if you saw a mini potenza (a potenzita?) kicking about...

  • Ok fellas, fair enough.

gloved pony, I hadn't meant to be delicate, but I hadn't meant to be hurtful either.

If I see a 49cm black Condor Potenza being ridden in a suspicious manner, I shall stop the rider and ask questions.

Though, I remain interested in how your bike was secured, before the theft.

  • Oddly it seems we might all be more sympathetic if it had been a messenger's bike that had got nicked after being left unlocked or at best freelocked when they'd entered a building. Bit unfair since it's still a case of what the thread title suggests. Anyway, hope the condor returns to the nest at some point.

  • Because it's a courier's means of earning income and we've not yet heard if the OP's bike was locked, free-locked etc anyway.

  • Do people really free lock?

    "free lock"

I cant believe its even a phrase.

How did we derive "free lock" from "I locked it to fuck all"

  • anyway... sorry about your pony, erm... pony.

  • How did we derive "free lock" from "I locked it to fuck all"

    "Free to a good home"

  • am assuming by pony's lack of follow up it was not locked at all or just freelocked with a liqourice string

    Yes.

If there's nothing suitable to lock to and you're dropping a package a short distance away, within eyesight, etc.
