American for dress fancy (i.e. wear something smarter than normal) is fancy dress. There. Confusion abated.
Thus, for the wedding, we are dressing fancy. This means smarter than normal, if I understand.
Interpret that as you will. I'm going for smart black jeans, shirt, nice jumper and sidi's. well, not sidis, but you know what I mean...
